We have enjoyed two Viking river cruises very much, the Danube more so as we traveled through several very different countries and had more time on deck, where as Portraites of southern France was not quite so varied but still a good holiday. Staff and hospitality were of a high standard on both trips.

At the end of March the weather in Prague was brilliant, as was the weather up to Magdeburg and Berlin. The cabin was excellent and the meals first class. The star of the show was Dresden, with so many beautiful churches and buildings in close proximity. The spectacular rock formation, called the Bastei, was truly impressive. Meissen was also interesting but we would like to have seen the firing of the pottery. We enjoyed the trip to Worlitz as it reminded us of National Trust houses and gardens in Britain, but it was at the expense of a visit to Magdeburg. We felt that when we departed for Worlitz, the boat could have moved on to Magdeburg, enabling us to return to the boat for lunch, and get a full afternoon in the town. It is worth a longer visit. Cecilienhof, in Potsdam, was a little disappointing as we stood outside the palace for an hour, listening to a lecture, but did not go inside. However, the trip to Sans Souci was excellent, especially for lovers of Baroque architecture. Our final stop was Berlin, and we chose to go to the Pergammon Museum. A worthwhile trip.

My last cruise was in April 2015. I enjoyed it and the high standard was typical of all your cruises. I do however have two observations about Viking in general. 1. My main grumble is the lack of interest that you display in single cruisers. You have built a completely new fleet of river boats and are building three ocean going cruise ships but you have chosen, presumably deliberately, not to provide cabins specifically for single cruisers. In fact you are behind the curve here. Some other cruise companies are doing just this because they value this market sector which you obviously do not. The 100% supplement that you want to charge is outrageous. Where there is a reduction you are only prepared to offer single people the least desirable cabins on the boat at the last minute as though they are some kind of inferior species. 2. But also none of your staff seem to be aware of the disadvantages that single people experience on your boats. When I have occasion to discuss the dining arrangements with your staff they all say the same thing i.e. 'you can sit where you like'. But it is not as easy as that. One has to wander around the dining room trying to find somewhere to sit only to find that most people are saving seats for friends so one has to keep going from table to table to find a spare seat. I have had to do this 5 or 6 times on some occasions. Conversely, if one sits at an empty table no-one comes to join a person on their own. All the tables always have an even number of seats. Why don't you provide tables with 3, 5 or 7 seats for example? Apart from single travellers there may be groups of odd number passengers. The maître d' should be looking after this and finding a seat for all your passengers but I have never met one of your staff who does this - unlike some other cruise operators. You make great play of being able to make advance reservations on the ocean boats for different speciality restaurants but this is of little benefit to single travellers unless they want to dine alone. Your photos in your brochures tend to show nice tidy even numbers of people too. On the whole you seem oblivious to this and to the message that you are sending out i.e. 'single people need not apply'.

Liked the trip. Shame you could lose our bags twice meaning alate night search when we were tired. The hotel were very good in supplying wine when our bags were found after an error by your staff" We hope next months cruise is better.

Elegant Elbe- Viking Fontane. Public areas excellent, staff most attentive and efficient, as was our cabin steward. Our cabin, however, was rather cramped and the air conditioning unit somewhat noisy. My bed was narrow and uncomfortable. Food was superb throughout. Tour guides were helpful and knowledgeable. German speaking guides didn't seem to know that "schloss" means either castle (their usual translation) or "country house/stately home", which the "schlosses" we visited were!

The journey up the Rhone was very enjoyable, particularly when we reached the Burgundy district. In particular the guided tour of the Hospice was a highlight.

We liked the comfort, the food, the service. We disliked being on a boat with 90% of the customers coming from the USA. We think your recommended gratuities are a complete nonsense. Don't your cruise directors get a salary? We are unlikely to make any further bookings with Viking.

The staff and cruise director were very good, but the quality and amount of the food was, in my opinion, not good. Breakfasts were OK, there's not a lot to go wrong with the breakfast buffet but we felt that the lunches and evening dinners were very short in quantity. Because of the above, we will not be going on a Viking river cruise again. The first one down the Danube was excellent but we feel that Viking are making cut-backs but still charging the same amount.

Our recent Rhine cruise was not as good as last years Douro cruise. We travelled on Viking Sun where we felt attention in the restaurant was rather hit and miss; coffee at breakfast was often difficult to obtain, and as a white wine drinker I seemed to be overlooked for a refill while the majority who drank red got a plentiful supply. Once I could get hold of a waiter I was attended to. If I remember beer correctly least year there was a Sommelier in the dining room, and it was not left to the waiters. The Maitre Di occasionally walked around but did not seem proactive. Despite these grumbles we enjoyed the cruise and will probably return to Viking.

On board the Viking Forseti at Bordeaux the service was excellent, however our journeys, planned and arranged by Viking from Birmingham airport to Bordeaux and return via Amsterdam, were horrendous. We had the impression from Viking that there was no direct flight available from Birmingham to Bordeaux on Saturdays and thus suffered the journeys, starting from home at 2.00am and eventually arriving at the vessel a 4.00pm (5.00pm French time). On returning we left the vessel at 1.45pm and arrived at Bordeaux airport at about 2.15pm. Our flight back to Amsterdam was due to take off at 4.55pm. During this time waiting at Bordeaux we noticed that there was a direct flight from Bordeaux to Birmingham at 3.25pm. The flight was Air France flight number AF6530. It appeared that the Air France flight had combined with FlyBe flight BE1843 and utilised the FlyBe aircraft. This flight would have arrived in Birmingham at about 5.00pm(4.00pm) British time). Instead we had to go to Amsterdam and be subject to another three hour wait and yet another security check before finally arriving home at 11.00pm. With a little more investigation by Viking into the most convenient route to travel the stress and inconvenience of the journeys could be minimized. The other point we should like to make concerns the information in the Viking Itinerary Booklet (page 4) relating to "On-line check in" which states:- "This facility is available 24 hours before your flight departure time when specific seats can be selected---etc". We checked the availability of seats 48 hours before the flight from Birmingham and found that a large number of seats had already been booked and in particular the only remaining two seats together on the Bordeaux to Amsterdam flight included one seat with extra leg room for which we had to pay an additional £10.70 payment. The seats can therefore be selected at some time before the the flight and the statement in this Brochure is incorrect and misleading

My husband and I enjoyed the cruise but were disappointed that each time we arrived at Amsterdam we were unable to walk into the city because we were berthed miles out in the commercial harbour. This was particularly annoying on the last day when we did not leave the ship until 2.15pm. On the whole we liked the places we visited but some places there was not enough of interest for the guides to show us. The stop to meet local residents in their homes was just away of filling in the time. The ship, the staff and the food were all excellent.

Cabin 232 on new Long Ship is getting a bit cramped.

The ship was very comfortable as usual and the food was the best we had experienced on our 4th cruise with you.The staff were all exceptional as expected. Particular reference must be made of the hotel manager Artura, who is an absolute pleasure and a great bonus for the company. There were however problems. This is the first time we have not joined the ship straight away and this did not enhance the holiday. After a particularly long day at Amsterdam airport before arriving in Prague it was a long boring day, which does nothing to put one in the holiday mood.To a certain extent the same at the end, rather than just flying home or at least volunteering for a longer stay as we have done in Lucerne before. The Corinthia Hotel at Prague was poorly located for the city centre. The room had faulty TV ,table lamp and standard lamp.Having to leave our baggage at 8am before our daily tour and not having access until after 4pm was also not conducive to a pleasant holiday. The breakfast there was not a pleasant experience. Please give serious thought about the beginning and ending of your cruises

Our recent Rhine/Moselle cruise was good as usual & if we hadn't travelled with viking cruises before would have been excellent but it lacked that little something extra that we have come to expect with viking cruises.

The ship was beautifully appointed and the staff were wonderful as usual. The food was sumptuous and plentiful. The one downside for us was that our toilet did not work which took the gloss off having our lovely explorer suite. The team did attend to fix the fault but by the time we left it was failing again. We found the itinerary on this cruise very fast paced. There was such a lot to do and very little of the relaxing scenic river cruising that we have come to love on cruises on the Rhine, Danube or Duoro. However all the excursions we did were excellent and interesting. The guides were all fantastic. We would recommend the cruise but probably to the younger Viking clientelle and anyone who wants to see a great deal in a short time.

This was our third cruise and, although we enjoyed it, it was not as good as previous cruises. VRC had organised our flight and so about 25 travellers arrived from UK to Marseilles early evening. By the time we arrived at the ship the briefing had started, there was no-one to greet us as we got off the coach and it was a very hurried sign in at Reception. We missed the safety briefing. I would have preferred an earlier flight or that the briefing was delayed until we were all on board. Our cabin staff, programme director and waiters were great and I am particularly grateful to the Maitre d' who ensured my dietary requirements, but I did not think the food as good as usual. We thoroughly enjoyed the Navigation Presentation by the First Officer and the visit to the wheelhouse. The staff coped very feel with the problems of flood and the need for extra coach trips

My Husband and I have travelled with you first to Russia and have to admit that this was the very best of all BUT we have also enjoyed the others When we did the Budapest one we were disappointed by the Guide in the City just when we really looked forward to the Famous Coffee and cake she left us, when asked she said oh just help yourselves they are good . well we did not find one but otherwise that tour was also enjoyable apart from the concerns about the possibility of German Lock keepers striking which me net that we missed a very nice tour BUIT again Viking came up trumps and announced that the remaining tours would be free to make up for the loss. Again we were delighted and felt that Viking had done their very best for us. Avignon and Chateau Neuf du Pap was really perfect and a wonderful guide she certainly knew her village. Just one thing on that last cruise The main meal was sometimes disappointing Neauvaux Cuisine we find disappointing and for the first trip we did,nt feel that after a busy day we had an adequate meal In a few weeks time we shall be doing the Prague to Berlin trip and have persuaded a friend to come with us ` we expected a discount for so doing but did not get one? and also from the `Itinerary we see that at the Hotels we only get Breakfast One of the main reasons we come with Viking is that almost everything is included and thats how we like it, although we have been to Prague before, the last thing after a journey from home is that when reaching our destination it is suggested we might like to go looking for a meal out and the same in Berlin But other than that you tick the right boxes Thank you Janette and John FDunbavand

Cruise was all as expected as it was not the first with Viking, the small problem at the end due to lost cases did cause some inconvenience but was quickly sorted out by Viking. This has not stopped me using Viking as I am booked for another river cruise and a sea one next year
