“We bought a sofa from S.W. James a few months ago but wanted to wait until we used it to write an honest review. We cannot emphasis how happy we are with the 4 seater ‘Archie’ in vintage dark brown we are now the proud owners of. We were a little concerned about buying a sofa during lockdown without sitting on it or seeing it but the website is packed with photos, videos and info that addresses every query you may have. Warren and his team are also available to advise you at each step of the process which is very reassuring. Everything from the quality of the leather to the superior comfort exceeded our expectations. The quality and craftsmanship is very evident and beats other examples we almost made the mistake of buying. A certain leading department store who is ‘never knowingly undersold’ actually import their chesterfields from China. “We have had a Chesterfield suite in the past they just look great but not always the most comfortable. SW James have provided us with the most comfortable Chesterfield ever. From appointment to delivery I cannot fault the service. You have a personal appointment with Warren to discuss your needs and try out all of the versions, it was very special and made you feel that you were the most important customer. The pricing was very competitive with other manufacturers but the quality shone through and we are delighted with our matching 3 seater Huxleys on honeypot legs. For us it gives the sofas a bit more height which allows easier cleaning beneath. They were comfy from day one now a month or so in we couldn't be happier with our purchase. “We spent a considerable amount of time looking at Chesterfields online and in various stores.Some were good and some were of questionable quality whilst others just didn't feel or look quite right. Once we visited the SW James website however, we thought their sofas were worth looking at in more detail. So, we arranged a viewing with co-founder Warren at their Bollington shop. Once we saw and subsequently sat on the sofas on display, we knew pretty much straight away that the Huxley in antique honey was exactly what we were looking for. Warren could not have been more helpful during the whole experience and gave us regular updates on where each stage of the manufacture was up to. “Having spent many months trawling the big stores and online for a new leather sofa, I finally opted to go with S. W. James. This was the best decision I have ever made, from requesting the leather samples which arrived very quickly I could see that both the quality and colour of the leather was way better than any other I had seen. Having dogs this was essential. My next concern was would the company have a sofa that would fit through the very narrow front door and hall of our Victorian terrace, after many emails, measurements, photos and phone conversations with Warren I felt reassured that my choice of sofa (Atticus corner sofa) should fit. The Order placed, I was kept informed of progress through out the build process the front door / hall way and were quickly in place, however the corner section of my new sofa objected and try as the delivery men might, it refused to fit through the front door, it was a couple of cms too wide. As you can imagine I was gutted, however a quick phone call was made, and the corner section was dispatched back the workshop to be adapted, at no extra cost. Two weeks later, S.W. James’s Dispatched Neil on the lengthy journey back to Kent, to fit the now adapted corner section. Any concerns were very quickly dispelled it slid through the door and was fitted to it counter sections with in minutes. Whilst it has been a bit of an extended journey to get the sofa of my dreams, I am more blown away by the quality and look of my new sofa than I could have imagined. If you are starting out on you new sofa search I can highly recommend S.W. James, I can honestly say from personal experience they go above and beyond to ensure that their customers feel valued and receive a quality leather sofa that is unbelievably comfortable. I think you would hard pushed to find a company who will proved the same level of service, care and attention to detail. I’m so impressed that I am now considering purchasing a wing chair and footrest. My only regret was not living closer to the factory/ workshops, to be able to go and visit their showroom.
