Please describe how supportive the mattress feels. too firm
I don't love the mattress yet. It is a bit too firm and too high and I can feel the buttons. But I'm going to give it some more time and I know I can return it if it isn't right.

Hi Susan - thank you for your review. We completely understand that you'll want to give the mattress a bit of time before deciding if it is the right one for you. Bear in mind that new mattresses containing natural fillings tend to feel a bit firmer at first than their eventual 'settle-down' tension (by approximately 5-10%). It is only after you have slept on your mattress for a few weeks that the natural fibres lengthen and the mattress softens up a little. The surface of the mattress and the 'bumps' will also settle down. And also remember to keep turning it every few weeks in the first few months. As I am sure you know, you have 100 nights to return or exchange the mattress. Thank you. Matthew

Still getting used to it. Hopefully keeps shape and doesn’t sag.

I’ve had the Swaledale Super King mattress for just over a month now. It’s very comfortable to sleep on and I’m pleased with the purchase, and in my opinion it’s such a good mattress that a mattress topper is not required. I’m glad I visited the showroom and tried out the various mattresses prior to purchase. Being the deepest mattress does however come with a downside and that is the weight. It’s so heavy that the initial 1,500 gas lifts were inadequate to keep the ottoman bed in a raised position. These were changed relatively quickly for 1,600’s which seem better and should have been supplied originally. The weight of the mattress in Super King size does mean that I am not able to lift the ottoman bed open and have to rely on my taller/stronger husband. The showroom does have ottoman beds on display and I was able to lift those up, but on reflection none of those were Super King size topped with the Swaledale mattress. This difference was not highlighted to me during my showroom visit and whilst it would not have altered my purchase, it may well affect other people’s decision making. The mattress has a summer and winter side, but I think due to the weight it will be a challenge to turn.

Hi Lorna, Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a review - and I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the mattress. The Swaledale is one of our deepest mattresses. It's double sided - meaning you get two sleep surfaces - and the 1,000's of springs inside the mattress, along with the sumptuous fillings, should provide a luxurious sleep experience. As you've noted, it does require a bit of heavy lifting to flip it over - but once the mattress is settled (after the first 12 weeks) you'll only need to flip it ideally twice a year, and rotate it around (which is much easier!) 4 times a year. With regards to the ottoman, I apologise if this wasn't mentioned sooner, but (for an extra cost) we do offer an electric version that some customers opt for as it doesn't require manual lifting. I'll reach out to you now to explore potential options. Have a lovely weekend! All best, Sophia

Takes a few nights to break in, but now seems to be very comfortable - firm but comfy. Only a couple of weeks in, but we both think we are sleeping more deeply.
