“WOW, what a place. It's so beautiful, and so precious. I would really like to see tourism limited to the Antarctica, even more than it is. Only small ships allowed and small numbers both ships and people per year. I feel truely blessed I went with Polar Expeditions, through Chimu for my experience. They are true professionals and I believe the leading companies in this region, both in protection of Antartic and quality of tour. What an amazing lifetime experience.”

Describe the aspects of your itinerary that you thought worked really well. I loved that we were all divided into groups with names - we were the Orcas. And we were called by name into the mudroom when it was our turn to get ready. The zodiac operations was very well managed and timed so as never to exceed 100 persons on land at any one time.

“Loved every minute of this expedition. Even the four days at sea were interesting with all the lectures and presentations given - and those continued even while we were IN Antarctica. Absolutely loved mealtimes - there was so much food to choose from! And of course the twice-daily expeditions in the zodiacs were always enjoyable, no matter whether we were able to land or just tour around through the icebergs, looking at the seals and penguins from the water. Good perspectives either way. I personally did a morning kayaking, the "day paddle" in less technical kayaks, which got us up close and personal with some larger icebergs, and also enjoying the natural sounds of paddling through ice floes, glacial calving, and even an iceberg that finally decided it was unbalanced enough to roll over! My 73 year old husband bravely opted to do the polar plunge, which I happily filmed from above.”

Describe the aspects of your itinerary that you thought worked really well. All international, internal flights and transfers to and from accommodation were trouble free. The private walking tours with Guide Jeremiah in Buenos Aires and the National Park excursion in Ushuaia were well organised, exactly as described and thoroughly enjoyable, with knowledgeable, passionate guides. Ocean Albatross' itinerary, including Drakes Crossing, Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia, and the Falklands worked perfectly. The captain's expertise with weather and sea conditions, together with the crew's logistic skills allowed us to make as many landings as possible and we felt incredibly fortunate to see as much wildlife, icebergs and beautiful scenery as we did. The briefings, zodiac transfers, dry and wet landings, and kayaking experiences were carefully organised and perfectly executed by crew and staff.

“Our Chimu Antartica experience was amazing. The Ocean Albatross was a beautiful ship with roomy, comfortable cabins, wonderful amenitites and excellent catering. Crew and staff were friendly, accomodating and dedicated to their work. The itinerary allowed us to experience and immerse ourselves in an environment with an abundance of amazing wildlife including seals, penguins and sea birds, as well as spectacular scenery including glaciers, icebergs, waterfalls, and mountains. The whole cruise was an absolutely breathtaking, unique and beautiful experience. We would certainly recommend to anyone if you have the opportunity to visit Antartica, seize the day, you will not be disappointed.”

Describe the aspects of your itinerary that you thought worked really well. We have friends that went earlier in the season, and we were apprehensive that we may miss something later in the season. We were still able to see everything that we wanted.

Were you satisfied with the efforts taken to minimize environmental impacts during your trip?

“The weather was very kind to us so that enhanced the experience. Everything to do with the ship and crew was brilliant. We learnt a lot and made us more aware of the vulnerability of the region. Seeing the wildlife at the end of the season had its advantages. Definately a bucket list trip for everybody.”

Describe the aspects of your itinerary that you thought needs improving The location of Glaciar hotel in Ushuaia is very inconvenient. Too far out of town and there is no hotel shuttle. A taxi/uber is needed to get to the town.
