This is a fun activity in Holloway, London

Co-hosted by brut tea & Meiro Ceramics

Matcha Tasting and Matcha Making, hosted by brut tea (50 mins)
This part of the workshop is led by brut tea, a London-based independent tea brand specialising in modern Asian tea culture.
You’ll be guided through a mini matcha tasting, where you’ll try and compare different matchas while our facilitator shares the story, origin, and what makes matcha so distinctive from other teas. You’ll then learn how to prepare matcha properly at home, from whisking technique to water ratios, before making your own oat matcha latte to enjoy!

Matcha Bowl Making, hosted by Meiro Ceramics (60 mins)
Then, you’ll get creative with clay — shaping, designing and glazing your own chawan (matcha bowl). Expert instructors guide you through each step of hand-building your bowl. Working with premium clay and professional tools, you'll learn to shape, smooth, and personalise your piece with hand-painted designs. The workshop takes place in our serene studio space, where everything has been carefully prepared for your creative journey.

The Finishing Touch
Your bowl will be professionally glazed and fired after the workshop, ensuring it's both food-safe and beautiful. In three weeks, you'll collect your finished piece – a meaningful creation that bridges centuries of tradition with your personal artistic expression.

The class was split in to two portions. First the matcha tasting in which you tried several matcha teas, explored the flavour profiles but in a casual "no wrong answers" kind of way before being taught how make your own matcha latte, all whilst learning some interesting facts about matcha and it's history. Secondly the pottery forming and painting of your own matcha bowl. Both sections were excellent. Kaya and Jude were both knowledgeable, friendly and always on hand to help if needed. A great way to spend a couple of hours in London.

The teachers were both lovely, very knowledgeable and friendly. It was very cool to get to taste different matchas and learn why they had different flavour profiles, and I really enjoyed the bowl making process, can’t wait to pick them up!

A really fun class! I loved that there were different components to the class, and that we were told a bit about matcha itself. I think the class was structured well and I will definitely recommend this to others. The only downside is the amount of time for painting your pot - I would prefer some extra time, to not feel rushed. Please note, the pottery is by hand, not on a wheel.

The matcha tasting was really interesting; the history of the tea as well as understanding the different qualities and flavours. Joyce really knows her stuff and was a great teacher! The matcha bowl making was so much fun, really interactive and Jude's guidance helped to make the end result something I'm proud to bring home
