Jun 5 - 12, 2026 | On our Narwhal and Polar Bear tour, we travel from Pond Inlet, Baffin Island to the floe edge where we will have close encounters with Narwhal and opportunities to see polar bear and other northern wildlife. This is a unique opportunity to camp near the floe edge and includes cultural experiences as we travel with our local Inuit guides.

This is an adventure of a lifetime. Camping on the frozen Artic Ocean. You have to go with the flow, nature is in charge here. Our Inuit guides were spectacular. They took amazing care of all of us. Be an active participant in setting up camp or tearing it down, this is a group effort. Nature is not on a time table, this trip allows you to become one with nature.

It was a good tour. The experiences with the native guides were an exceptional aspect of the trip that truly enhanced the experience. Getting to really understand their culture, their intimate relationship with the ice and the environment was truly phenomenal. The members of the tour group were truly exceptional. Our guide was outgoing, extremely personable and a phenomenal birder. However, the title and cover exaggerated the likelihood of seeing a polar bear. A more fitting title would be "Ice, Inuit, narwhals, and birds. " I would have liked more focus on mammals, since they had top billing. In retrospect, I might have preferred a summer trip when there were more breeding birds, the Inuit report even better narwhal viewing and better likelihood of seeing both bear and walrus.

Thank you for your insightful review! We're glad to hear that the experiences with our Inuit guides left such a positive impression on your trip and that you appreciated their deep connection to the culture and environment. While our primary focus is on finding iconic mammals like narwhals and polar bears, we do take the opportunity to enjoy some birding during the quieter moments as we wait for these remarkable animals to appear. It’s worth noting that nature can be unpredictable, but we’ve been fortunate to have excellent success on our tours—narwhals have been spotted on approximately 16 out of 18 trips, and polar bears on 17 out of 18. We appreciate your feedback and will certainly keep it in mind for future tours. We hope you consider joining us again for another wildlife experience! Warm wishes, Team Eagle-Eye Tours

Wow! The high Arctic is a place of incredible beauty. Although inhabited by but a small number of species of birds and mammals (including humans) all living in a very inhospitable environment, all of those species living there are both beautiful and interesting. The landscape is imposing and possesses an almost indescribable beauty. The journey across the sea ice to our camp by komatik was a highlight of the adventure. Our Inuit guides had prepared our campsite on the sea ice in advance of our arrival and it was conveniently located only 20 minutes from the floe edge and just a short walk to Bylot Island. The Inuit guides were friendly, attentive to our needs and safety and were unbelievably capable. I didn’t go for the food but it was surprisingly good considering the circumstances under which it was prepared. Finally, our tour guide. Gareth Thompson, was extraordinary. He was organized, a good communicator, knowledgeable and competent as a skilled birder but more importantly, as an outdoorsman. He is a natural leader- charismatic and thoughtful - and possessed of a capacity for tact and diplomacy in dealing with a difficult problem we had with one of the tour members. He ultimately sent the participant back to Pond Inlet but such was his skill in managing it, on our return to Pond Inlet they were cordial and got on well. Gareth made the adventure so much fun. It was a learning experience to be sure and our awareness of the challenges facing the Arctic ecosystem has been heightened. We were fortunate also to have a nice cultural experience with our guides and because of the good relationship that Gareth developed with the outfitter some us were invited into his home. I had hoped to gain some cultural insight into the lives of the Inuit but never dreamed it would be so deep. It’s not easy to get to the flow edge from Helena,Montana but it was worth every difficulty.

The staff from Eagle-Eye (organized tour) and Tagak Outfitters (company in Pond Inlet that kept us safe on the ice) were fantastic. They were attentive, enjoyable, shared their knowledge, and overall made this a fantastic experience. The folks living in Pond Inlet were very kind and patient with the tourists. We saw amazing wildlife, particularly the birds coming in for the summer breeding season. But also a polar bear, walrus, bearded seals, spotted seals and more. The tour is set up more for birding, which I hadn't fully appreciated. This experience was a bit casual - we did spend time waiting for tent set up/break down for instance and this seemed to reduce animal viewing opportunities a bit. But if you are okay with a more casual experience and looking for some great connections with wonderful people who know the ice, the animals, the weather and will keep you safe and sound... this is it.

Great times on the ice. The return was not great. A lot of sitting around while the camp was being broken down.

Hi Jay, thanks for your review! We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed your time on the ice. All trips have to spend some time packing up tents so they aren't damaged while the camp is empty. We apologize for the inconvenience and we'll try to be clearer about that in the future on our website, as well as work with our local guides to try to provide some more time at the floe edge at pack up times. We appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review and hope to see you on another tour in the future!

This was an amazing trip. Ken and the local Inuit guides were able to consider our specific interests as group members, even given the nature of wildlife! It's blurry, but I got a picture of a tusk!
