“The explore is my 3rd electric scooter and the most powerful one I have owned.
so the good: It's fast. I am arriving at work 20 minutes sooner than I used to. I has enough speed I can safely keep up with traffic.
It seem to be sturdily built there are a few rattles but when you are tooling along at 25mph and hit a bump nothing feels like it's going to shake free.
Lights..lights everywhere.
The bad: the front wheel release lever is tiny, It's really hard to get enough leverage to free the lockbar to put the handlebars down. There is a complicated workaround for this I will talk about later.
The headlight doesn't really light up the road in front of you at night. It's not adjustable so it's more of a let other people see you than a let you see light.
The tires are super thin, I had a 8mm piece of wire poke a hole through the rear tire and tube on my 4th ride, I ordered new tubes and slimed the rear tube.
The meh? A very aggressive power save mode. Once I hit 3/4 of a charge it's almost impossible to get it past 15mph on anything other than a flat surface (it's much less than that if you are pushing up a hill). I know this is probably a feature to extend the range of the scooter.
Putting the steering post down. On my previous scooters you simply step on the release plate and the scooter folds up. On the explore it's more complicated . First I unscrew the locking collars on the handle bars and fold them down. Then (and this is the part that isn't mentioned in the Apollo FAQ) PUT THE FRONT WHEEL AGAINST SOMETHING IMMOVABLE. Lean forward pushing up against the steering post. Step on the release lever, when the locking bar pops free quickly pull the steering post down. It took me a couple of hours to fold the scooter up the first night.
All in all I am happy with the scooter not perfect but a fun ride that I can haul onto the bus if the weather looks bad.”
“Proud owner of my new Apollo Explore, and boy the wait was worth it.
Here's my story.
I received my scooter and rode it right away and loved it. Long story short, something was wrong with the scooter so I contacted Fluid/Apollo. They were so quick to help with my issue, they didn't try to put the blame on me for the problem; no questions asked other than to share a video of the issue. At this point im going through my thoughts thinking, ok maybe they'll send me a new replacement piece, maybe they'll have me take it to a shop at their expense. The thoughts kept coming while I was waiting for the reply in email. Fluid, the authorized dealer for Apollo, told me to send the scooter back at their expense, and to take a photo of the confirmed shipping/tracking number. They sent out my replacement scooter that very moment! I didn't have to wait for them to receive my old scooter, and I was able to get a brand new scooter that wasn't just fixed and returned back to me! The whole process took about 24-48 hours in total. Really an upstanding company. Apollo and Fluid can count on my business as well as referrals by me in the future.
Today, I am still enjoying my scooter as much as I did when I first received it. If your on the fence about getting a scooter, I highly recommend going with a Fluid or Apollo brand scooter simply just for the customer service alone. A company that stands behind their product 100% means the quality of the product is exceptional. Thank you Fluid! Thank you Apollo!
As far as the scooter itself, it smooth sailing when riding. The suspension is top notch (front and rear), and the 10" tires eat up any type of obstacle a usual 10" tire can take.
The deck of the scooter makes you feel stable and safe. It is covered with a skateboard type grip paper kind of like sand paper with the Apollo logo throughout.
The Tires are pneumatic with an inner tube on the inside. This means they are filled with air just like bicycle tires. For me personally i pre-treated my tires with the "Slime" to prevent future punctures when out on an adventure. I still will always keep a small handheld air pump with me.
The disc brakes are just wonderful. Although they are mechanical, most people haven't used anything but mechanical brakes, like myself, on any type of bicycle or scooter. Again, top notch and high quality.
The handlebars fold downwards if you plan on bringing it along on a trip, as well as the stem that connects the handle bars and the bottom of the scooter folds down. This isn't a smaller scooter, but you wouldn't want a small scooter if you had the capability of going upwards of 30 miles per hour.
The Battery Life I can't really comment on just yet because I haven't had to charge it yet. I would consider that a good thing!
Overall out of 100 points, I would give this scooter a 98/100. You may ask why I took 2 points off? Well nothing in life is perfect. If I had to change one thing about the scooter, I would probably offer at least one more color option, but thats really preference.”
“Ordering, checkout, and tracking were all easy and quick! Scooter arrived undamaged from shipping, however upon opening the vinyl decal covering the riding platform was bubbling right out of the box. Makes me wonder what else wasn't constructed/assembled well. I would expect a quality finish for this price point in scooter. The locking pin for the handlebar upright sticks a bit but hoping it will break it. It is very secure in the locked position. Lights look great at night. Accelerator trigger is also in a weird spot to use, right over the brake so it takes some finesse to manage the two together. I've ridden it close to 40 miles over 9-10 occasions. I'm 257 lbs, and it runs about 30 mph on most surfaces with a real world range of about 25-30 per charge. 3 stars because it seems like a pain to try and replace/fix the decal, and an aesthetic flaw that makes the scooter look chincy, so i'll just live with it I guess. Also wanted the phantom because it was more suited to my needs but was out of stock on the site (even though it would let me add to cart, but then not check out; a little deceptive).”
“I received my Explore. Within a week I have wrecked it and broken my ankle in three places. I've rides a hover one scooter that is front wheel drive for almost two years now. When I upgraded to this explore that is rear wheel drive, I made the mistake of taking a small jump, not letting off the accelerator and landing on the back tire at full speed. This caused the scooter to wheelie up on me. I stepped back with my left foot to catch myself and my ankle couldn't stand for force if the speed, my body weight and the scooter. I went to the ground and a passerby called medical assistance for me. I am returning home today from surgery. Scooter is still operational I believe. But I won't be getting back on anytime soon.”
Hi Felino - We are very sorry to hear about your accident. We sincerely hope your surgery went well and that you will recover soon. Should there be anything broken on the scooter, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are here to help. BR
“I preordered two Apollo Explore scooters, Fluid free ride delivery the products very close to the expected date( two weeks late) which is pretty good with what's happened to imports lately due to covid 19. Anyways, the scooters are great, Fluidfreeride had responded to my emails promptly regarding ETA and additional tool kits etc. I do recommend this company Five Stars!”
“The Apollo Exlore is an excellent commuter option. Way less expensive than a car, faster than public transit (in Seattle anyway), faster than a bike plus no sweating, and even cheaper and faster than an electric bike. I average 45 minutes on my 11 mile commute, which would take 1:15 on a regular bike. The Explore will seriously do 30 mph on a flat surface and even at that max speed the suspension soaks up bumps no problem. I'm not a fan of the trigger throttle, but if you put the regenerative brake at higher settings it will basically provide a hard stop so you don't need to try and keep your other right hand fingers on the brake. This thing is just as powerful, smooth, and fast as they advertise. Would highly recommend.”
“The two stars is because the Explore is a fantastic ride. But there's no protection against theft‚Äîwhich recently happened to me and makes enjoying it impossible. Of course, this was my fault despite all prevention efforts, but Apollo's product and customer service offered little to no support.
First, the Explore is incredibly easy to steal once it's out of a bike lock. The wheels don't lock, and anybody can start it and go. I can only imagine how excited the thief must have been discovering this convenient feature.
Second, there's no alarm system. I bought my own alarm, and even though that—obviously—didn't make a difference, I fail to see why Explore doesn't have this built-in.
Third, there's no tracking of the scooter—at all. I got in touch with Apollo and Fluid Free Ride and neither of them had a way of tracking it. No chip to see where the scooter was. Not even a serial number. I can still picture the police implying how I'm out of luck without such a crucial feature, and me looking so foolish for having bought such a product.
This theft is a total loss. Again, it's not the manufacturer's fault, but in such a world where thefts are common, I would have appreciated more support. Spend more money on a scooter with better security and tracking. It's worth it. Avoid Apollo.”
