“I ordered a CityRider, paid for the package protection. The package was very damaged and I did not accept it. Route did nothing as I didn't take a picture (not sure what I paid for). Called customer service to try and work things out, they said I would be issued a refund and then I could reorder, this was after I had requested to simply be shipped a replacement. Customer service sounded annoyed that I had even called them I ordered a different scooter from Yumeway and won't ever be ordering or recommending FFR.”
Hi Jac - We are sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with our service. It is possible that the package gets damaged in the shipping process. While we would have gladly shipped a replacement scooter, we hope that you will get up and scooting on your new scooter soon.
“First time scooter buyer who was looking for something for short errands in my neighborhood. Have owned the Cityrider since November '20 and put around 120 miles on it since. Has surprising speed for a cheap scooter at around 17 MPH. Range is not its strong suit in the 8-10 miles/charge and when it gets toward the bottom of that range it really loses power. Something to be aware of. My biggest complaints are the braking; which is really so-so with the honeycomb tires and don't provide a ton of grip; and the stem which has loosened and creaks (as does the scooter with its wood base). Makes me wonder how long this device will last TBD. Also, buy a bike light if using at night. The provided light is really more to be seen than to see. Overall, I feel it's a good value, I purchased for $350 during a discount and the rear brake lighting/turn signals, amount of info provided via the app and scooter weight are all great.”
“I've had the scooter for almost a month and it's great so far! It feels good to ride, the customer services is great, but I wish the scooter had a little more power.
The scooter rides smooth and it feels very solid. It's definitely a fun scooter to ride for short commutes. The longest trip I taken was about 7 miles round trip and I still had about 20% of battery. It also looks really nice and is relatively easy to carry.
Customer services is also great. After a couple of rides, the scooter did not charge. I reached out to customer service and they got back to me quickly. They told me how to troubleshoot and we found out that the charger was faulty. They immediately sent me a new one and it works great! It's good to know I'll get a quick and helpful response if I have any problems with the scooter.
Now the only con about this scooter is the speed and power. My girlfriend has a similarly priced scooter and it is significantly faster and more powerful than this one. This scooter takes a very long time to get to a decent speed and it is worse on even a slight incline. It advertises that it get's up to 18 MPH but I rarely reach that speed. When I do it's usually on a decline. The power and speed gets even worse when the battery reaches below 80%. I would say on average I'm going between 11-14 MPH when riding this scooter.
Overall it's faster than walking and it's more fun and reliable than public transit. Plus it looks really nice. If you want something that can consistently go 15+ MPH or live in a place with lots of hills, big or small, I would not recommend. But if you want something that faster than walking, looks good, and don't mind that it doesn't go really fast, then it's a great option.”
“I haven't received the scooter or it's replacement for an order placed the beginning of Apr. It was originally misplaced by FedEx. I purchased the Route protection and the process for replacement is still ongoing. Someone from fluid has stepped in to expedite, but I still have paid full price for an item that still isn't in my possession. Hopefully I can update this review if I ever actually get the replacement.”
Hi Alicia - We are very sorry that you are having a bad experience! We are waiting on a reply from route regarding this. Please rest assured that we will help you in resolving this asap. BR
“After many months of looking, I purchased my first electric scooter, Fluid Free Ride, Cityrider. This scooter has not disappointed. With headlight, brake light and turn signals, I'm comfortable riding on my small town streets. It's a little heavier than I expected, and the handbrake is a little too touchy in my opinion. But after a few rides, I've mastered the brake and getting a little upper arm workout carrying the scooter in and out of my home. If you're looking for a zippy, safe, solid scooter, this one's for you!”
“I am 55 years old. I weigh about 200 pounds.
I spend a lot of time walking in Chicago from house to train, to work, and back.
Just was looking for something to get a mile at a time, maybe 4-5 miles total per day to save walking time on work days.
Here is my honest review:
Product seems well made. The weight was as advertised.
No paperwork came with the unit and so I had to figure out how to assemble. Not much of a problem, but it took me a minute to figure out that the handle bars are left handed threads, fortunately before I cross threaded and stripped them. I thought the charging port on the neck was lubrication point at first but figured that out. Figured out how to put on the little bell, and figured out how to pull the metal cup up a little so it would actually ring. Paperwork for the phone based control app came with item so I was able to install this and set everything up.
Now for the use eval:
It took about 4 hours to fully charge the first time. (red light turned green).
I took it out for a spin and found that it moved along at about 9 mph which was fine. But, at the very slightest elevation or even just a slight head wind, the unit could not maintain this speed and slowed down to about 5-7 mph. Then it felt like I was almost walking. So, I upped the max speed to the second option, and then the top speed was about 14 mph or so, and slight elevation and wind dropped it down to 8 or 9 mph.
I decided to check the advertised distance on one full charge and took it for a ride that I know is about 3 to 3.5 miles away. It said I could get I think 8-10 miles. I noticed five battery health bars on the unit when I started. Very quickly into the trip I noticed I was down to 4 bars and I wasn't even halfway there. I got to my destination, had lunch, there headed home. At about the 5 mile total, I noticed that I wasn't cruising at 14 anymore, first 12, then 11, then 10, then 9, etc. And I realized that i was down to one battery health bar. At the lower 20% of the battery, it could not maintain full speed. And in this condition it cold not handle hills or wind at all and I had to ride it like a foot powered skate board to keep it moving. If I kept foot pushing, I could keep it above 6 mph, but if I stopped it started to slow down to 4. I barely got home and logged into the app and found the battery was at 13%. I only went about 6 miles on mostly level ground. I was pretty disappointed that the battery died so quickly. So now I need to make sure that I don't go more than 3-4 miles total to be safe.
As far as minor issues: I had the handle bars unscrew on me while riding. I screwed them in tightly, but grabbing on them during use causes the to come loose. I have not been able too tighten them more. Also, the little clip that holds the neck up while in use, that you disengage to fold the unit up, does not easily engage all the way some times. It looks like it is engaged, but I have had the neck fold back on me twice while riding when the clip wasn't actually fully locked. I have tried to figure out why this keeps happening, but there is just a way to snap it in that doesn't actually clip it all the way sometimes. So I need to make sure to check carefully each time. It doesn't just snap in like you would think it would. The brakes work exceedingly well, so much so that you need two be careful not to over brake without leaning back. Wheels are good and ride can be bumpy without suspension but I knew that going in. I am not completely happy that you need to access the unit through a cel phone app and can not do it on the unit directly. Therefore, you only have battery health bars and not actual battery % or actual mileage travelled without accessing the app, which means I need to take my phone with me, which I sometimes would rather not do.
As a 200 pound guy looking to only do short flat trips to work and back, this unit does OK, but it clearly doesn't do anymore than that. I think if I need a little more, I will get a unit that has a higher battery capacity AND a unit with higher Watts. I would like to be able to have one that can easily do 10 miles between charges, at about 14-15 mph and doesn't suffer so much on slight uphill grades.
I give this product a B-, because it did seem to perform mostly as advertised and is well made. But, I do not like the neck clip being so dicey to determine if it is engaged, and I do think the unit battery life and power is not good for someone of my weight. It might be better advertised as appropriate for someone under 160 or so.”
