“I have been wanting to get a scooter for a while now and this one seemed to have everything I was looking for: decent speed (18 mph is plenty for local riding), honey-comb wheels (no flat tires) and a a sleek design (scooter and display). Throw in awesome extras like turns signals, headlight and hazard lights and this scooter wound up being more than I could have ever expected. I am 100% satisfied!”
“The scooter is bigger and more robust than I imagined but the honeycomb tires aren't very forgiving compared to pneumatic ones. My 210lb frame gives it a challenge going up a hill but honestly, I don't think I'd feel as safe on a more powerful motor! I was relieved to discover that it gives me a little bit of "engine braking" on the way down the hill so I won't wear out the drum break.
The hook makes a decent U-lock holder if you add some velcro!
Only real negative so far: one of the two I ordered came damaged but support (Peter) was very quick to help.”
“The scooter arrived quickly, packed well, and the kids tore open the box. I was a little stumped on what to do next, though. There was an allen wrench, but no indication of what it was for, and some hand grips, but they didn't seem to screw properly into the handlebars. I hunted around for the jack to plug in the charger for a while, too.
I figured it out, of course: the allen wrench is for tightening the hand brake, which is separated for shipping. (Worth remembering if you want to remove the hand grips to save some storage space later -- you'll need to loosen the hand brake too.)
The hand grips have a small "R" and "L" and are threaded in opposite directions. Everything screws in just fine if you put the R hand grip on the right hand side, and the L hand grip on the left, although be careful since the R grip is screwed in the opposite direction as the 'righty-tighty lefty-loosey' you probably have in your muscle memory.
In the picture with the allen wrench you'll see what looks like a blemish on the head light. Fear not, that's just the protective plastic. Remember to remove it, as well as the protective plastic on the speedometer.
If a brief 1-page sheet is put in the box showing how to attach the hand brake with the wrench, how to attach the hand grips on the proper sides, a reminder to remove the protective plastic, where to plug in to charge, and how to turn the scooter on (holding down the power button for a couple of seconds -- just a little longer than you might otherwise expect), I'm sure future owners would be off to the races w/o a problem.
Then I took it out for a spin. It easily got up to 30 km/h on flat ground. On a bit of a rise near my house it was down to 20 km/h with the throttle all the way down. That's fine. My version had the beep-beep "cruise control" feature once it gets up to speed, and I didn't mind that at all. A quick tap of the throttle or squeeze on the brakes is enough to get it to disengage. Bottom line: a lot o...”
“I ordered my scooter last week and within days it was at my door. This scooter is so much fun. I like the way it looks and it's very smooth to ride. The hand break is easy to use and thumb speed control is nice. I only weigh 120 pounds and the scooter does struggle to go up some hills but if I'm on flat streets it doesn't have a problem at all. Charging takes a few hours but I don't know if that's usual for all scooters or just this one. It's kind of heavy for me to carry when it's folded but I'm not really carrying this thing but I would rather be riding it anyways.”
“UPDATE: After receiving a damaged scooter, FFR was quick to help me by verifying the damage and then sending me a new one once we figured out that we couldn't fix it. I ran into some other issues later on, and FFR support was very responsive and answered all my questions and helped me resolve my issues. It did feel like it took them some time to respond to my first email, but beyond that FFR has stellar customer service.
As for the scooter itself, my experience with it is basically the same as the other high rated reviews; it's very comfortable to ride, and the build quality is excellent. I am a 150 pound male, and the battery life seems to be pretty good. I have not officially run into from full to empty so I cannot comment on how accurate the advertised mileage is. However, I do find that the battery indicator on the scooter is not very good as it frequently jumps between the number of bars (eg if I start out with 3 bars, it might drop to 1 bar during the ride and then show 2 bars once I finish).
I really like the tires due to the fact that I'll never need to worry about a flat tire. The area that I ride is relatively flat and even so I haven't had issues with bumps and what not, but I can definitely see people having issues with this scooter on roads with a lot of cracks and such. I do wish they included something to dampen impacts from road conditions.
Overall, my experience with this scooter is pretty positive and would recommend it (especially because of the customer service). However, depending on the price of this scooter and other competitors, there might be better options out there.
ORIGINAL: Ordered the scooter on Tuesday 10/15 and received it Tuesday 10/22. Was really excited to try it out, but I noticed that a piece of the folding mechanism was chipped. This prompted me to inspect the scooter more thoroughly and I discovered that the battery casing on the underside has multiple cracks in it. The packaging seemed fine, so I'm not sure what could've happened. I contacted FluidFreeRide immediately, but I have yet to hear back. Will update once they do.”
“I ordered the City Rider last Wednesday and it came in yesterday (5 days). I spent a while looking for a scooter to take for my ~1 mile commute to work on pretty flat ground. I am 6'5" and weigh about 205lbs and I wanted a scooter below the $500 mark. When I saw this scooter pop up in an article I read I decided to make the purchase given fluidfreeride's reputation.
Now, about the scooter.
The positives: The scooter itself is really sleek and cool looking. The front and tail lights are bright and help to see at night. The tires provide way better than expected suspension and shock absorption and it's a giant plus they are non-air filled. I was able to get to 26 km/hr on my flat road which felt great and although it did struggle uphill it was no problem at all to give the scooter a little push while going up the hill. Easy to maneuver and braking is great (a little harsh at first but you get used to it)
Now, some of the negatives: The battery fluctuates a lot while I was riding. It showed 3 bars when I first took it out of the box and went down to 1 bar while I was riding it and when I finished my ride it was back up to 3 bars, so I was confused at this. The automatic cruise control was a little annoying to deal with but I can see myself getting used to it. The scooter definitely did struggle up hills but as I stated before with a little kick it's definitely manageable. It would also be a nice touch if there was a built in locking feature to lock the scooter up if need be but that's just if I'm being picky.
Overall: For the price, this is probably the best scooter you can get. It looks great and rides great. Some small technical issues so far but nothing too major. I definitely recommend this scooter and am excited to get more use out of it!”
“I got my CityRider and I couldn't be happier. The quality and build is exactly what I expected. It's lightweight enough to fold and carry. It's perfect for the shorter rides around my work and home in Denver. It's quick enough to get me where I need without frustrations and safe enough to be seen. The wood deck is super stylish and eye catching. Excellent value!”
“Overall this scooter is awesome. It does have some drawbacks but for the price - totally worth it.
I live in an area of Austin, TX that has plenty of hills and somewhat limited "flat" roads. While I use this scooter purely for enjoyment and not as a commuter, my review is limited to a suburban world and not considered as downtown city life. For me, it's for buzzing around the neighborhood, traveling to some nearby stores and picking up the mail from the neighborhood mailbox. For all the above activities, it's adequate.
I can easily get about 8 miles before it quits. Considering I weigh about 185lbs and traveling up long uphill grades, while sometimes maxing out at 10 km/h, I think it does well. Downhill, I easily do the stated 30 km/h and on the flat areas around the neighborhood I can usually attain the stated 30km\h. It REALLY does struggle on even the smallest incline. If I had a commute up these hills, I would definitely consider a more powerful scooter but it would be double the price. For just messing around the neighborhood, I can overlook the weak uphill performance.
The build quality is outstanding. All metal construction, the wooden deck with grip tape is great! The ride is wonderful. I feel like it's on par with the Bird or Lime scooters as far as ride quality goes. I was looking for a scooter that had non-inflatable tires due to the problems people were having with the M365 in getting new tubes in. With this scooter, it's not an issue because there is no tube. Braking is fine. I really like the handbrake and it feels like I have a lot of control. I know some people are complaining about the cruise control but I find that it works fine and I have no complaints. I don't really care that the speed is listed in kilometers only - not a big deal to me.
Again, it does struggle with the hills but if I were to use it in an area that was flat, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it as a commuter. For the price, you can't go wrong.”
