“Purchased the scooter a few years ago. I rode it for about ten times. After a about year of no ride, I found the battery does not charge any more. The battery only charges about a mile worth of ride. Now I have an expensive scooter display only.”
“I had previously owned a WideWheelPro, i sold it and purchased an Apollo Ghost thinking it was the right move. Looking at reliability - the WideWheelPro surpasses the Apollo Ghost by a million. I cannot tell you the amount of times the Ghost has left me stranded with a flat.
Ive recently just sold the Apollo pro and Purchased another WideWheel pro fron FluidFreeRide(the best). Cannot wait till it gets here. Will continue to purchase the same scooter if needed.”
“So, baby steps. I'm thinking, let's get a scooter and see how it goes, then look at at other electric options for the vehicle herd. Now I'm sold. The Wide Wheel Pro has lived up to the review hype, and the battery shines through as outstanding. I might look into the next scooter with more suspension, because roads are not so smooth around OKC, but it hasn't stopped me running around like Snoopy's Red Baron on this, the Batmobile of Electric Scooters. This one will be the one I throw in the truck or trunk to run around the extra mile after parking. Awesome product.”
“I'm happy with my scooter. The team at FFR seem responsive and helpful should I need parts. I'll likely buy another scooter from them as far as I know.”
“25 miles on the clock and loving my WWP so far. Great build quality, and so fast and fun! The wide tires do take a bit of adjustment. The handling felt sketchy to me at first, vs. narrow tire scooters I have ridden before. Now that I've got the hang, I'm realizing that the big contact patch really gives you the ability to carve out some turns! Very sure-footed and confidence inspiring feel overall. Haven't found a hill it can't handle. What a thrill!
Get the seat! I was skeptical at first, but very happy to have it now. Particularly since it doesn't get in the way of my standing stance. Seated gives you a different riding experience with the lowered center of gravity. It folds flat to the deck, and does not add to the overall dimensions of the scooter when folded.
Also got the super bright rechargeable light, and bar-type folding lock (neatly mounts to the tiller), both high quality and recommended. You'll want the fender extension to prevent a rooster-tailed back if you're going to ride in the wet.
My biggest complaint- As others have noted, the throttle has a short throw, and is quite twitchy to modulate at low settings. I've gotten better at it by bracing my hand and/or using short stabbing bursts of power to achieve very slow speeds. Throttle upgrade is on the way, and I'm pretty confident that will alleviate this shortcoming.
Also, though they haven't been a problem per se, it's clear to me that the brake caliper upgrade is probably in my future. The stock brakes do need an occasional tension adjustment to keep them in the sweet spot, and no matter what I do, they always seem to rub or make some kind of noise at low speed. None of this is a knock on effectiveness! Plenty of stopping power there.
I really wanted a "beast" scooter ala Apollo or Mantis Pro. But this weighs less, and folds more compactly. It's a great compromise. This is probably not the best off-road scooter, but I have to say, the gravel bike trails in my area are no match for it. Remains stable, and handles the bumps just fine.
That said, you will quickly find the limits of the suspension on this. I've bottomed it out a couple times, and while it makes a satisfying thunk and doesn't give one the impression the structure is being compromised, I'm certain that over time, metal would fatigue, and things would crack and eventually fail. If you ride hard, and/or aren't willing or able to finesse it, you should get a beast model. I have found that if I see the hole coming, I can hop slightly before it, and mostly get the weight across without bottoming out. At night this is much more challenging with the road surface harder to discern.
I will be inspecting the forks on mine at regular intervals.
One more comment on handling: The wide tires do lend to a tendency to track uneasily over surface features parallel to the direction of travel. For example, riding over a long metal sidewalk grate causes an uncomfortable side to side motion. I have found that the best technique is to not to attempt to steer through that, keeping a steady hand on the tiller, and trusting that the tires are maintaining traction.
I wouldn't call this a beginner's scooter, but if you're looking for good value and a solid, reliable piece of machinery that will get you there while having a blast, not let you down in any significant way, and be serviceable and long lasting with great parts support, this is IT as best I can tell.
Get it from Fluid! They have been fantastic with after sale support and questions. In a moment of distraction, I opened the hatch on our Pilot and the scooter tumbled to the concrete. Broke the locking pin on the folding assembly, and caused some scuffs, but no real functional damage. I was walked through all the parts I needed, for half off advertised price. Excellent.”
“Absolutely love my Widewheel Pro!! Was looking for something to use for my daily commute to and from work, (12 miles.) as the public transportation in my area has become extremely sketchy. It is plenty fast. With the wide tires it does handle a little different in turns. Take a couple practice runs to get the feel for it. Fluid shipping was fantastic and it shipped less than 24 hours after purchase. Would definitely recommend!!!”
“We purchased the WideWheel PRO as an open box return at Freeride's service center in Miami. The scooters ran well except for a somewhat jerky ride. It was hard to keep a constant speed. Found out that there was a throttle upgrade. Purchased these from freeride for a nicely discounted rate. Installed them myself. The scooters are running very well now. The service center personal were very friendly and knowledgeable and helped me straighten out my issues. I would recommend Fluid Freeride scooters.”
