“I have been evaluating a lot of electric scooters and finally found the perfect fit: value, effectiveness and fun! Peter and team are great and always responsive! Love the new ride!!!”
“It was extremely and excitingly thrilling. I rode in ECO mode to get a good feeling and that was fast. Only once did I attempt to go turbo and it was ready to fly. I suggest going turbo be used on open stretches of road, and not in stop and go traffic. The only critique I must offer is that I noticed the rear wheel wont spin freely. I cannot walk the scooter. Why is this? And what must I do to correct it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. To add a fantasy thought of improving the ride. when a plane comes in for landing and touches down, the landing gear keeps the plane leveled...when the scooter slows the rider must step on foot off to balance it from toppling over. What if sensors detecting the decrease applies two small dropdown wheels on either side to balance scooter without rider having to balance scooter with his/her leg. It would be worth the added price as a custom option. Lastly, you asked customers to report any missing or damage parts in delivery...There is one of 4 screws missing that secures the handlebar to the post. Thank you P.S. After closer examination as to why the rear wheel does not have free spin when it cycles through a certain point, is because the brake disc is slightly bent...please respond”
“I have had the Mantis Scooter in my home for a few weeks now and I love it!. The rides on this thing are smooth and fast. The only issues I have had is when
I road after a light rain storm with the floor being still wet. I came home to my clothing on my backside being drenched in water and dirty. I even had dirt on my helmet the back wheel seem to have almost no guard again water spraying up. The ride was super stable even in wet terrains and going around 29 mph. I am still to scared to go faster because i have not master breaking at higher speeds. I really wish this scooter had a key ignition that would make me much more at ease when I make a pit stop and start talking to people who are asking me about the scooter and where they can get on. This scooter get a lot of attention and that make me nervous. If you are undecided about getting this scooter I say hell ya buy buy buy NOW!. The team at Fluid freeride are the best and answer any questions you may have. Good luck my friend and ride safe and Fast!”
“I've had the Mantis for a few weeks now. First, I'll start by saying that this is a really, really excellent scooter. It is smooth, powerful, and has great range. It is very stable, and overall a joy to ride! Unfortunately, my initial experience has been marred by a number of quality control issues. First - I went over it in detail after a couple of rides and found many loose screws. I tightened what I could but I still hear a rattle that I can't seem to solve. I also found one screw that had been drilled poorly in the aluminum, and the threads were bad, rendering it unable to be tightened. I'm going to try a thread repair kit on it first. Second - the kickstand is rather poor, a problem on a 60+ lb scooter. I've been careful to keep it from falling over so far but it will someday and I'm concerned, especially given the other fragility problems I've had. Finally - the computer mount cracked the second time I went to turn it on. Looks like either poor quality plastic or tightened too much when installed. I expected more from a premium class scooter and have not had these issues with my other scooters. However, I know that I was an "early adopter" and they may have some issues that will be worked out later in production. I will say that Fluid Free Ride's customer service has been very responsive. I'll update this review in a little while after these issues are resolved to give a fair report on the longer-term ownership experience and my experience with customer service.”
“I was a little concerned about the size and weight at first, it is a big boy, but SO worth it. I am a fairly big guy, 6'2, 230lb, and this thing feels like a rocket. In Dual Motor mode the acceleration is unbelievable, and I get up to my comfortable cruising speed ~30mph in a second or two. 40MPH scares me too much, so the top-end is less important to me, but acceleration is key. I use this to commute in San Francisco and I love being able to boost past bikes & cars alike when needed. And it is SUCH a smooth ride. The suspension is very cushy and the clearance height makes going over bumps & tracks a breeze. Highly recommend, especially if you can handle the weight & size of the thing comfortably.
My only other scooter experience is on the rentals in SF, which only go about 15mph. It is definitely an adjustment riding this beast, and I will admit this thing could be very dangerous if you aren't careful, but the stopping power is great, the suspension keeps the ride smooth, and as long as you don't abuse the dual motor power you should be just fine! :D”
“I have a lot of experience commuting on electric scooters and occasionally on my Onewheel. My commute is about 16 miles each day that covers my home in San Francisco to the Embarcadero BART station. From the Embarcadero BART station I travel 37 miles on the train until it arrives in Union City. From Union City I travel 6 miles to my office which is mostly bike lanes. I have done this now for nearly 5 years. I think it is important to know my primary purpose for my electric scooters. I also use it to go the few miles to my gym in the early mornings.
I have owned or currently own:
- The first generation Glion (sold)
- iFreego S10 (sold)
- Ecoreco M3 (sold)
- Ecoreco M5 (sold)
- Ecoreco L5+ (one of my daily drivers)
- Speedway Mini-IV (one of my daily drivers)
- 2 x E-Twow Booster (still have but don't use much)
- Onewheel XR (don't use for commuting but great for exploring)
- A few electric bikes which all have been sold.
I picked the Mantis for the following reasons:
1) Fluidfreeride is a US-based company with great support and ownership.
2) I wanted to try a hyper scooter.
3) Mantis was one of the more portable hyper scooters with high value pricing.
My Mantis charge port came lose internally and I had to get the part replaced. Fluidfreeride promptly shipped out the replacement part and I was able to fix the port. It is great to have a US-based company provide support. I had a lot more difficulty dealing with repairs and parts for my Speedway Mini-IV and E-Twow scooters.
The Mantis power and ride are on a completely different level from my fastest commuter scooters. The ride is plush but confidence inspiring at speed. I have not had any problems with most hills in San Francisco. I exclusively ride in Turbo/Dual mode. I also find the base disc brakes to have plenty of stopping power. You can easily power slide and stop with the brakes as they come out of the box. They are easy to adjust as needed. The suspension is also very good and can ta...”
