Awesome EDF. A no brainer at $89!I read many pages of reviews here at MRC in an attempt to get a handle on the CGissue, prior to purchasing. There seems to be several scenarios that have worked for people depending upon the size of the battery and whether or not you use the optional landing gear.I decided to follow one such scenario and didn't even check the CG after my build. I just followed thisformula blindly since it seemed to work well for others and there is so much confusion overwhat the actual CG should be.1. No landing gear2. 1800 mah Admiral 3s battery shoved as far to the front as it will go (It will gofarther without the landing gear which is why point #1 is relevant).3. Gentle level hand launch at shoulder height. Do not push hard and do not push upward. It launches perfectly level each time. Very stable with no tendency to want to pitch upward.Flies perfectly!

This was my first EDF. I usually don't write reviews but I had to write one about this aircraft. The plane goes together quite easilybut the thing that impressed me the most was the attention to detail and the fantastic paint job that Freewing has put in. They even painted the control horns to match the color of the wings. I was a little nervous about the C.O.G. issues so I read all of the reviews and determined that the guys were right about it being tail heavy. I removed the original battery tray and made one out of balsa to fit on the foam to accept a 2200 mah 3/S battery. Shoved the battery all the way forward and this put the C.O.G. at 1/8 inch in front of the airleron servo wires. Maidened the aircraft and it flew fantastic with very little adjustment trim. To check the C.O.G. I usually fly inverted to see how much the nose drops. I thought that the nose was dropping too much so I added 1/4 ounce of lead to the tail. This made the aircraft very unstable so once I got it down I removed the lead on the tail and left it with the C.O.G. 1/8 inch in front of the servo wires. Take your time and be patient and you will end up with a great flying little jet that you can burn the sky up with. Thanks Motion RC, really enjoying the F9F Panther and will be back once you have the small Sabre Jet back in stock.Billy Bones

I sold my 1st Panther after 6 years of flying it. I have had over a thousand flights on it and it was my favorite EDF. I use a 2200-2400 3s and my balance has always been perfect. The Panther had become a bit epoxy worn over the years due to excessive low passes. (I found I could touch and go without landing gear at full throttle!)Hand launches have been clean and easy with the plane in my right hand and my Tx in my left.I bought it for $89 here at Motion in 2011 and sold it in 2017 for $60. Minus the battery, I figure the Motion FreeWing F9F Panther cost me 3 cents per flight! Well worth it!

I am 87 years old with reaction times that are less than stellar. The only thing I did was add a gyro to this great little plane. I changed nothing else. Flew on the 1600 Ma battery and she flew like a champ and did a smooth belly landing. Looks great in the air too. Did not find the cig to be a problem. I may buy another as a spare. At 87 you never know!

Listen to them when they say this jet is tail heavy. 1600 mah is too light a battery, but I did get a shaky flight with 1800 which ended in a nose dive from way high when the wind get under it and it nosed up and stalled. After turning the wreckage into a gorilla glue repair, I had room for a 2200 which fit because the wooden battery support had broken. Then this thing flew super great on a windy day. You do have to heave it to get it going.
