Maiden didnt go so good-went with70mm aft c of g and she was tail heavy. I had a fly away!! Yes a fly away-ill spare yall the story but i got her back two days later and in pretty good condition considering. Well some cosmetics-and ive gotten 6 trouble free flights in. I strongly recommend 4 cell 2200mah 30c+ batt (mine weigh 228g ) be moved all the way foward and take the throws down till you get a feel for her ( even with the batt all the way foward i get very nice dead-stick landings-with a blip of nose up a couple of inches above the ground-to protect the nose ). I put some red mono coat on the bottom of the wings and elevator for orientation. I have my ailerons at 50% with 40% expo and the elevator at 60% with 40% expo. I am hand launching and belly landing-so gear are gone..but i have the nose gear servo and cover in place as to avoid a tail heavy bird! Now for how the FW F-18 flies....wonderful simply wonderful!! Plenty of enough speed on hand when wanted and yet flies very stable at half throttle. Ive tried my hand at edf's in the past with mixed results- i can see the potential of alot of successful flights with my FW Royal Maces F-18. At $129 Us THIS IS AN AFFORDABLE VERY GOOD 1st edf-oh and Motion rc rocks!!!

Good plane, good price. Even the 4S likes a long takeoff roll. Just make sure that CG is observed and flying tail throws are not too aggressive or it will stall and spin.

This is a great plane despite the fact that the control horns were the wrong size. The company sent me new ones but they were still way too small so I drilled a hole in it and it worked out fine. This plane flies great except that it's very hard to land on a grass runway without bouncing and bending the nose cone.

I have about 6 flight so far. Extremely impressed with the quality of the foam and components. Assembly was very easy and construction was well thought out. 4S 2200 battery provides plenty of power. This plane is a floater and need to get used to applying very little throttle on landings...it could basically glide in no throttle. Flight characteristics are rock solid and this plane can fly very steady at 1/3 throttle or less!Suggestions: dial back elevator throws to 70-80% and put plenty of expo on it. really helps smooth out landings. Also CG is very important on this plane. Neutral flight was obtained with leading edge of elevator just below the body seam about 1/8 inch...meaning some up-elevator provides level flight. I am still dialing in CG and slowly moving the battery further rearward. It is my experience with this and my 64mm Art Tech F18 that these planes like neutral CG leaning towards tailheavy. I would set CG 70-75mm from LE of wing. Some have even added 7g of weight to the tail to achieve level flight. The F18 airframe in general does not perform well flying noseheavy....takes forever to take off and needs too much up-elevator for level flight....and much less maneuverable. Once you get the CG nailed, the plane will fly amazingly!Extremely impressed with Freewing EDF's and I am glad I got the 4S version. MotionRC is also an excellent site to order from!

I just bought, built, and assembled an 18. I think I might try to hand launch it. Has anyone done so? If you have, or have some pointers, please let me know.

Totally agree with Jay EDF on the throws. Has a nice swooshing jet sound. Do not even try the 3S version...busted up my first model stalling all the time. The 4S totally changes the handling characteristics of this jet and the bigger battery improves the balance.

Simple short review. If you want a scale looking edf that flies and looks great, this is it. Balance it a little more nose heavy than manual indicates.
