“I have been buying from MRC for over a year now and own several of their planes. I have not given a 5 star yet, but this one desires it. Everything about the build, the manual and the very helpful reviews, made this a great experience. Flying this beauty just reinforced my rating. I'm using an Admiral 4S 4000 mAh, pushed all the way forward and the CG is perfect. This is a quality winner and a real looker that everyone should have now. Plus, she flies fast and slow w/o issues.”
“The detail and paint job is just fantastic on this plane .Freewing did another great job on this. Don't think its small because once you've finished assembly its bigger than you thought it would be . Everything just fits so tight and nice . The screw on wings are a step above in the case of a crash or bump up and needing to replace just remove the screws . Wish every plane was made this way ,”
“I originally rated 3 stars, laregly because I was upset about a warrenty issue, but Motion came through on it very well, and I am happpy now. I think I was just really frustrated, but the service is great. And I can't wait to get the plane in the air! The only thing holding me back is the winter weather here. But I must say the plane is really sharp. I love just looking at it; absolutely beautiful! Peace...”
“I could tell right away that this plane is well made and intelligently designed. I have it almost ready to go, but being it's the dead of winter, I have not flown it yet, but it looks like it will be a winner and I'm looking forward to it.So why 3 stars? The Motion RC service that everybody raves about has been questionable at best in my experience. The plane came with a bad elevator servo, so I contacted Motion about it, and made sure to tell them several times it was the reverse servo that I needed (are 2 elevator servos; 1 standard and 1 reverse). So what did they send me? A standard servo. Dealt with different people, and It seems the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing over there. I had to email them back with a freaking link from their own website showing the correct servo to send. Not a huge big deal in the end probably, but that kind of service is no better than any other hobby site out there. Maybe I'm the only one ever to be disappointed with the vaunted Motion RC customer service, but I think it needs to be stated, and I am just leaving my honest review of the experience.”
“This is my third EDF, and my first from Freewing, and I am a BELIEVER!! Fit and finish is flawless, it's an absolutely beautiful plane. I built mine as a belly lander, and I've been thoroughly impressed with it's performance; one thing I don't think that others have mentioned is how ROCK SOLID this jet is in the air. It's a solid, stable, scale-like, well behaved performer across all speed ranges. I am flying mine with the recommended Admiral 2200, full forward as others have mentioned, and it's flown great.ONE WARNING: the battery strap, on it's own, is not secure enough in my opinion. On my third flight, the strap came undone just after launch, resulting in total loss of control. In a remarkable stroke of luck, the plane entered an inverted flat spin, landing perfectly flat on its back; the only damage was broken vertical stabilizers, a cosmetically scratched canopy, and a bent nosecone. All of which are easily replaceable, thanks to the jet's modular design and MotionRC's readily available supply of spares. I also consider this a remarkable testament to the jets durability; this was no mild crash, and to hold up like it did is nothing short of incredible. Since then, i've installed a velcro strip into the battery tray, with no further issues. All in all, i can't recommend this jet enough. It's appearance is FAR more scale than any other 64MM F/A-18 I've seen, the build quality is excellent, performance is outstanding and flight characteristics are viceless (only thing I've noticed is that due to the large cheater hole inverted flight on full power is accompanied by a strong tendency to pitch up; which is, of course, preferable to the jet wanting to head for the ground!)If you're thinking of it, get one, it's a winner.”
“I want to point out my greatest concern which was the stability of this gorgeous Warbird while bringing her in for landing and man was that a non concern. This jewel lands so sweet I could not believe it. I flew it on Admiral 2500 4S PRO 50C as well as an Admiral 2500 4S 35C slid all the way forward and she handled great with both. The 50C felt better and I would recommend that power source. Flight times seem like they will be 3.5 min. minimum as my first three flights were in the 2-2 1/2 min range with I had bout 30 % total prior to low voltage cutoff left; in the 3.8-4.0 range on conservative throttle. I did have great conditions for the maiden here in North Carolina on 12 26th; 3-7 mph wind and nothing but sunshine. You simply cannot go wrong with this gorgeous F18. Any advanced intermittent pilot can handle it with ease.”
“The F/A-18 is another great product from Freewing. It went together with no problems. One small note on the assembly. The box plainly says no gluing necessary. Well thats not exactly true. In fact included in the box is a tube of that cheap Chinese glue. You will have to glue the two vertical fins on. I would not recommend using the tube of glue provided, but instead use Epoxy. The maiden went well except there is not enough glue holding the main gear on. Upon landing the left main gear pulled out of the foam. There is very little glue used. I recommend you Epoxy the main gear on before the first flight. On the third flight the fan was destroyed from sucking up something off the runway. If you look at the bottom of the plane just in front of the EDF unit there is an opening to get more air into to the EDF. I suspect that is where the FOD was ingested in to the fan. Replaced the fan. Love the plane. Just waiting on the weather to improve to fly it again.”
“Went together like a piece of cake. Typical Freewing quality (see: GOOD). 4S 2200 jammed to the front, CG is great. I don't like static gear on jets so I didn't bother installing the gear and she flies/looks great as a hand tosser/belly lander. Now I can fly at my club's grass field and school's soccer field. Can't go wrong with a Freewing EDF!”
