Freewing A-4E/F Skyhawk High Performance 80mm EDF Jet - PNP Reviews

4.8 Rating 172 Reviews
I was thrilled that Freewing finally released a large foam A-4 Skyhawk as I've been wanting a scale one ever since GWS released their version many years ago. And the Freewing/MotionRC Team did not fail to deliver! Although this model is not tricked out like the 90mm offerings, it still has plenty of scale features. The removable magnetic hump, 90° rotating mains, and AGM-12 Bullpup missiles and wing tanks really make this bird stand out. Performance is fantastic! I'm using a RoaringTop 6S 5800 35C pack in mine, and it has plenty of power and excellent vertical. Rolls are like a drill bit, and it can easily perform most military maneuvers. On mixed flying I get 3.5 minutes with 25% left in the pack. I'm going to try the RT 6250 as well, hoping to squeeze out a little more flight time. Landing is a breeze using half flaps, or no flaps, just keep the nose up and use power to control the decent rate. Even a hard touchdown does not seem to affect the landing gear, which are very robust. Freewing and MotionRC have hit another home run!

Freewing is setting higher standards with every new plane they release, this one is outstanding in the fit and finish! I can't comment on the flying qualities though as it still has to be maidened. Based on other reviews it flies fantastic, I wouldn't have thought any different.

With only 2 flights so far (just before hurricane Irma) it's hard to make an in depth review. However, I do like what I experienced in the two flights made. Power to weight ratio is outstanding and it's big enough for my old eyes to be able to see it. I'm liking this new breed of 90 sized models powered by 80 mm fans. Not as much |bling as the super scale models but it translates into an excellent flying model with a light wing loading. Assembly is what we've come to expect from Freewing. Parts fit is excellent as is the finish on the foam. It takes longer to apply the decals than it does to assemble to plane. Watch the assembly video on the product video page to get an idea of what it takes to put it together.

Freewing's excellent rendition of the Douglas A-4E/F Skyhawk (designer Heinmann's Hot Rod as it's called, is a welcome addition to my military collection of fighter jets. In fact, this one is so well done, and detailed, I will be buying more for different variations. I love this jet. Kudos to Freewing for offering such a great lineup of jets. Easy to build, excellent scale detail, and handling. I really like the way Freewing hinges their moving surfaces on the ailerons, elevator, and rudder. Great paint finishes as well. Very pleased with this one.

Beautiful airplane. Everything fits like a glove. Amazing quality. I haven't her yet since our field is down because of Hurricane Irma.

Very impressive model. Quality of the plane was exactly or even better than expected. Fit and finish was perfect. I even took the time to install the Nerf whistles as shown in the build video. I also applied weathering with chalks and clear matte finish to seal the decals and chalk. Wayne in support also clarified the proper CG of the model since the manual in my kit was not updated from the factory until after shipping from China. BE AWARE of the updated CG or your first flight will end up disastrously... A definite winner from Freewing and Motion RC!
