The P 38 is actually a little heavier then you might think for a foam model together with the fact that it is a war bird and anyone who flies war birds knows you have to keep the speed up on landing, or it will stall. So adding the shock absorbing landing gear definitely helps make you look a lot better for the crowd on your landing as well as reducing distress on the air frame overtime.

I watched the video for the nose gear replacement. Don't attempt to take the clevis off. Loosen the screw on the servo instead and pull out the steering bar, pushing the servo arm back. Much easier! As with other retracts I've had, the "bar" between the trunion and the gear is a weak link. With significant impact it bends or breaks. Quite the pain to replace...

Too weak for the weight. On a modest landing nose gear broke off at 4mm steel link, right main gear bent back slightly. Aircraft structure and retract not affected. Really trying to come up with some sort of improvement, like maybe a drag link affair.

This is my third set and hopefully the last one. Overall fact that retracts on most models are not strong enough for normal use .

Very poor quality. The wire portion of the gear is mare from a softer steel and bends quite easily, The machine flats that secure the gear from turning are not machined correctly so after installing the main gears, the wheels point in different directions. A real pain trying to modify the wire to fix the problem.
