FlightLine P-38L Lightning "Pacific Silver" 1600mm (63") Wingspan - PNP Reviews

4.6 Rating 163 Reviews
every major part arrived with no damage or blemishes, every screw hole lined up perfectly with it's mating hole. not done with the build yet, only two problems have surfaced. the screws to mount the center pod are way to short, ordered a new complete screw set. looks like some longer screws from viewing the photo. Second item, where are the BEC leads, if their there some where it's to late now, have already glued the wire covers on. I'll be looking into where to put a separate flight control battery. Watched the build video nothing said about BEC leads there. It's a damn good looking airplane, and I am sure it will fly as good as it looks.

I am still working on the plane, but I can see it's going to be a great plane.

I am really impressed by this model. The fact that just about everything comes with the PNP version and installed (Gear, servos, control surfaces, motors, esc ) saves a few hours of time getting this thing ready to fly. All that is needed is a receiver and battery. Everything hooked up and worked the first time! It's well made, scale accuracy looks good and the part fit is good to excellent. I love the near scale propellers. The only negative I found was it lacked sufficient glue in one of the main wheel trunion housings but was a simple matter of gluing it back in. I wouldn't have noticed this if I hadn't made a fairly moderate bounce landing. But that's not the best part. This model fly's really well. It's a touch on the heavy side for a foam model but handles the weight admirably and fly's slower than I would have thought. If you have any experience flying RC airplanes you won't have any problems with this one. It's very stable and there is no torque during takeoff with the counter rotating propellers. The stock performance is impressive! An upgrade of motors is offered but at near sea level it is not required. The stock performance will allow impressive loops and you will be able to chase down many other foamy warbirds in the same scale.I'd heartily recommend this model to anyone.

I have not maiden the model yet ,but the build had only one problem with the electronics module. One of the blinking LED connection did Not work. the replacement module had the same problem with the same connection. I made the two connectors one, by soldering the wires together. I have 4 P-38 models from various companies and this Flight Line model was the best build of all. I have to give Flight Line and Motion RC 5 Stars.

First, the assembly was pretty straightforward, and the video online was a big help. Bench tested OK and then took it to the field. On taxi, the left motor stuttered and then stopped, gave a two beep low voltage alarm from the ESC, would only chatter after that. Back to the shop and checked everything, found nothing and got motors running again and returned to the field. This time, taxied, power tested, seemed fine, and turned into the wind and started takeoff when left motor quit again.(luckily before I got airborne) Same thing, two beep alarm, ESC was now suspect. So, reluctantly disassembled left wing and went to remove ESC. When I pulled the leads from the motor to the ESC, one wire came out of the plug due to a cold solder joint..... problem found. Someone got in a hurry somewhere. Resoldered joint, reassembled plane and back to the field again. This time, even off a grass field, an easy takeoff and beautiful maiden flight. Smooth flyer, and I am impressed with the overall high quality. Decals will take almost as long as assembly, but, who's complaining, plane will be beautiful when done.

Once again my hat is off to Motionrc. I had to talk my wife in getting me a plane for Father's Day. The old story, too many planes, not enough room. Then the plane was OOS, read that out of stock. I waited. The plane finally arrived and the wait was worth it. The plane was everything I have come to expect from Motionrc. Following the build video the plane went together easily. The only problem I encountered was in removing the wheels and replacing them with the suggest Du Bro tires. A drill and dremel fixed the problem of recalcitrant set screws. I added 4 oz of weight to the front of the battery compartment. My maiden flight was this morning and the plane handled flawlessly. What a great plane. By the way, the 3-hour build time does not include the time to apply the multitude of decals. But it is time well-spent.

First let me say this review is in now way reflected towards Motion RC, they have always treated me great (except one occasion which will be mentioned in a bit). I fell in love with the looks of this plane and did the initial pre-order to make sure I got one, The plane went together rather easily except you have to tweak the wings to get the wing tubes to fit. And as a few reviews mentioned, one side of the nacelles had damage that looks like someone put putty to and painted it. Wasn't to happy about that. There are also hairs or bristles throughout the plane that have been painted over and are stuck to the plane. That was a buzz kill. Once the plane is together and you overlook the stated problems, the plane looks gorgeous! Only other problem I had... I taxied the plane in the carport after build to set some rudder and nose steering trim at about 1/3 throttle. No problems. Next day took the plane to the field and started to taxi on the runway, got a little above half throttle... right landing gear folded under... the landing gear mount came away from the foam. Shut the plane down and inspected the site and it appeared no glue had been applied and the mount just came away! The other two are rock solid. I repaired the problem using CA, and applied more to the other landing gear mounts and have not had an issue again. Called Motion and the gentlemen I spoke to seemed to not really want to be bothered with it (this was the only time I have felt unsatisfied with Motion). Since that point I have had about 10 flights on it... and it rocks! This plane is FAST and looks INCREDIBLE in the air! The reason I took 2 stars off, the damage that was repaired I assume at the factory, the hairs or bristles on the plane and the landing gear incident. When you pay over $300 for a foamy you shouldn't have those cosmetic blemishes.
