FlightLine P-38L Lightning "Pacific Silver" 1600mm (63") Wingspan - PNP Reviews

This is without a doubt the best EPO model I built. First class all the way. Manual wise I encountered two problems. The trough covers were glued on to early before attaching the outer wings. This made feeding the aileron and nav. light extensions almost impossible. Peeling the covers off and regluing them as the last item would have been better. And the screws in the middle of the wing center section were too short. Question? Why does the red nav. light flash and green not flash? Getting to the control panel for adjustments after assembly is difficult with all wiring. Some extensions are too short causing the panel to be buried deep in the well. The maiden was a breeze. I added a couple of oz. just in front of the 4c 2500 Admiral Pros, but removed them for the next flight and with both batts. all the way forward, she flew great. Plan to add weathering, but can't wait to get this bird in the air again before spending the time. Thanks, Flight Line for producing a truly fantastic model. My dad worked on the P-38 at Lockheed during the WW2 and as a kid, I remember seeing finished aircraft coming off the assembly line and during the night hearing engines starting up and guns being testing before takeoff to go to war. In my dad's honor, I plan on creating a piece of nose art using his picture and calling the plane, 'Spence', his nickname. So, as Bob Hope would say, Thanks for the memory. Over and out!

Flew 3 flights today. Looks like the flight times will be 5 minutes if one stays out of the throttle with the recommended 4s 2500 50C Admiral Pros. CG was obtained with batts. as far forward as they would go just enough relief from the nose to allow the canopy to go on. Tracks well on the ground, in the air, and lands really well. The flap to elevator mix recommendation in the manual was too conservative. To obtain the 1.5mm and 3mm elev. down with half and full flap I was at 30 and 60 settings on my DX7. To get it right I ended up at 56 and 108. Really looking forward to many more flights.

You will want to take your time on this guy. A lot of wires to sort out but just take them one at a time. I really like the wire ways in the wing and the space in the center nacelle to get the control module and receiver through. This plane has been well thought out. Getting the recommended CG was a bit tough. I used the two Admiral 2500 Pros and had to slide them as far forward in the nose as possible just back far enough to get the canopy on. Flight review up next.
