Got this a few months ago with some minor gatoring on the wings but motion took care of it. Maiden plane this week. What a beauty. Very little trim. Flew with 5000 pro 4s. Great cg all the way forward. Love this plane. Highly recommend to anyone who loves warbirds. Replaced gear with upgrade. Handled grass perfectly. Flew tandem flight with sons p-38. Looked great in the sky. Five stars.

I've always wanted an r/c p-38, and the FlightLine Lightning does not disappoint! It's a very smooth flying plane and just has an amazing presence in the sky. It easily flies between 1/4-1/2 power with the gear up and I safely get 7 minutes of flight that way. 1/2 throttle is all that's needed for any scale aerobatics and it can even sustain inverted flight with ease. When pulling out of a dive and adding power, it sounds like your at a real airshow. Everytime I've brought it to the flying field, this plane becomes the center of attention. It's easy to assemble and transport in a small car. The only thing I wish was that it came stock with the shock absorbing landing gear, as it's a bit clumsy to taxi around on grass. It does take off and land on grass with the stock landing gear just fine nonetheless.

Very good airplane. Went together without problems and flys like a pussycat. Keep the speed up on landings and it’s a no problem airplane. I fly mine with 2 x ZEEE 4S 3700’s and get an easy 5 minutes of aggressive flying.

I was scared of the P-38 for a year and a half. It was bigger than my 1200ish millimeter comfort zone, and it was my first $500+ plane. (Including the gear upgrade and extra props and spinners) Turned out this plane flies like a trainer taking off, level flight and landing. Easy to roll, loop, Cuban 8 and Split S.Without question my favorite RC plane I own. Match it up with a Spektrum AR637T or similar, but after 50 flights you find you don’t need stability or Safe. The reason I’m on the site now is to buy the Euro Green to pair up with my Pacific Silver. I love the Flightline P-38 that much.

This is an update to my previous build review. Continues to get 5 stars. The P-38 flew like an Eagle. Took off without fuss, minimal aileron trim, and handled like a kitten in the air with conservative throttle. Opened her up and impressive fly-bys - but stable as a rock. Loops and slow rolls, Immelmans, etc. It's not designed to be an aerobat, So you need to feel out her happy place with each maneuver, but the scale look, stability, and even the noise at it zooms by low over the runway will inspire you. If you're into scale Warbirds, this is a terrific plane. I'm flying it stock except for the addition of the dubrow low bounce wheels. 2.75 on the mains, and 2.5 on the nose. So far not worth the hassle of the upgraded suspension gear. Also, don't want to upgrade the motors because you'll need to use the 2 blade props and lose the scale look - IMHO not worth it - pretty fast with the stock motors. So far I love this model..

I will update this review after the maiden. Just wanted to say some things about the build and Motion RC's stellar service. Received the model as promised and everything ordered waa in the box, including some spare parts I ordered with it. First thing - the build video is excellent - follow that rather than the manual, and I don't think you'll go wrong - but pay attention to some of the issues in my review. I used the manual in a few spots and ended up doing some things not in the optimal order - though not a big deal. Everything fit well except for a little gap between the cockpit and fuselage on one side - but barely noticeable. The plane is absolutely gorgeous. The landing gear doors and gear timing is great and overall can't wait to fly it. I opted for the dubro low bounce tires and held off on the upgraded struts as they require disassembling the gear motors to install and even tho there's a video, not quite up for that - but I did order a spare set of struts since my landings are not always greasy. A couple of opportunities for improvement as we say in the process improvement world.... First would be that some of the electric connector leads are really MUCH too short. The throttle leads are short and needed extensions as do some of the others - so have some on hand. The strobe light connection on the bottom of the nacelle is also short (don't connect this until you've got the nacelle attached or you'll be really frustrated). The space for the wiring is a bit tight, so it will take you a bit of time to get this organized tho you'll still be left with a bit of rat's nest - something to come to terms with for the OCD crowd, like myself. Again - no big deal because everything works once connected and fired up. Another issue is wire labeling: ALMOST everything is labeled well EXCEPT for the light connectors - weird. There are 3 sets of lights and it matters where you plug them into the integrated circuit module. There are the wing lights, pretty easy to figure out - But if you glue the wiring trough cover to hide the wires too soon (as the manual suggests) it's not so easy to ID the wing lights - follow the video instead which tells you do this later in the process). Then there is the light under the nacelle which I think is supposed to be the Strobe light - but then maybe the wing lights should strobe - I really don't know. Then there's the landing light on the left wing that comes on when the landing doors open. The connector wires for these lights are not labeled so you have to do some switching around to get it right once you're powered up. Once you do that, everything does work correctly - tho maybe I need to consider the wing lights being the strobes. I'll email Motion and ask them. Point is, the light wires are not labeled to correspond to the circuit board. Labeling those wires - or at least recommending which lights to plug into the strobe pins on the module - would have been really nice!! Finally, the BIGGEST POSITIVE: Motion RC Customer Service: had an issue with one of the ESC's not initializing. Won't go into the details, but I called Motion, the tech answered the phone, gave me some suggestions, and then called me back about 5 minutes after hanging up because he researched it further and realized the issue and walked me through the fix. Really impressed with the follow through. So all in all: Beautiful airplane, great fit and finish, but, some attention to longer wire connection leads and labeling and better directions for the light connections would be appreciated. Will still give it 5 stars pending maiden flight as their service made up for the opportunities.

I bought this plane in March and took my time putting it together. Wiring was a pain keeping track of what went where. I bypassed the board as many times as I could using extensions. These boards are just another point of failure if you ask me. Sent for some Callie graphics and after assembly put two coats of Minwax Poly to the surface. Flying is probably the best thing about this plane. The manual set points are right on and very little trimming was needed on maiden. With 1/2 flaps and 3/4 throttle it gently lifted over 150 foot or so. I flew it at half throttle most the time using 2-3000 4S batteries and had 58% battery left after 4 1/2 minutes of flight. I rarely use rudder on turns and with only elev and aelerons it turned smoothly. Just keep the power in it. Landing was as easy as any of my planes. Still using power on approach it came in great with 1/2 flaps. Overall I'm really impressed with this plane and would buy it again. Lots of good tips and advice on rcgroups web site. Happy flying
