FlightLine P-38L Lightning "Allied Green" 1600mm (63") Wingspan - PNP Reviews

Couple minor boo boo's out of the box but overall, very nice!I ordered the motor upgrade kit so installed those straight up...The gear n tires are garbage. I fly from rough pavement, dirt, or non perfect grass. I modified an FMS P-51 Shock strut main into a new nose gear with 2 1/2 Robart diamond tread scale tire. For the mains I used FMS Me262 Shock struts with 3 Robarts... Gear wells were modified as necessary to accept these larger tires.During final set up make note that to get the ailerons and elevator to throw the necessary distances, you will need to move the ball link attachments down the surface control horns. The per-attached and book locations are incorrect. The closest out of the bottle paint match is Testors Model Master RLM 81 Brownviolet top and Flint grey for the undersurface. Just tint easy with small amounts of flat white until the correct shade is achieved. For flight I'm using two Turnigy nano-tech 4500's 35-70mAh. CG is a bit forward, but only by a couple mm. Be sure and preset your transmitter throttles to the ESC's after binding per the ESC's instruction sheet found online with the ESC's, so the motors thrust will be balanced. She flies very well with the prescribed throw distances listed in the manual. Ailerons need to be on high, she has a slow roll rate. Elevator is fine on low rate. Beware getting too slow with the elevator set on high. The resulting stall is abrupt and eats up 100ft of altitude in a second or two. I'm cruising around 65mph at half throttle and 90 or so on the top end. Landings are very easy with flaps down and a bit of power to ride in on. I've only flown it in winds up to around 10mph and it's perfectly at home due to the sleek design. All in all, this is a very well thought out airframe that flies just as good as it looks. Any short comings like the landing gear can be upgraded to suite rougher fields. If your on the fence for any reason, don't be, your missing out!

I could no longer resist the temptation to purchase this fine model. Ordering from Motion guarantees fast and efficient delivery, and this order was no exception. The big box arrived a couple of days after I placed my order, double boxed to protect the inner box containing my new plane. Protecting the contents is exactly what the outer box did as the outer box had some significant damage. Taking a look at the kit contents confirmed that this plane is one awesome scale aircraft that certainly lives up to the high ratings it is receiving. I found only 3 things about the kit that did not impress me. The first item I took note of were the white rims on the wheels and white plastic landing gear struts. Seems like these could have been molded in silver or painted. Not a big deal as most of us will replace the stock struts with spring loaded struts along with Robart wheels or just paint with our color of choice. The second being the decals, albeit very nice I had a lot of trouble applying them and getting them to stick in place. The last item that disappointed me a bit were the wiring connections for the outer wings, If your like me and have need of removing the outer wing panels for transportation then unplugging and reconnecting these wires each time the plane is flown can be rather frustrating. I decided an easier way had to be found and came up with 9 pin connectors purchased from a computer store. Works like a charm! Just took some time, magnifying glasses help for these older eyes and a soldering iron. The kit assembles easily and every thing was included except the receiver and battery. The assembly manual covers kit building as apposed to Plug and Play but still was easy enough to follow and complete the plane. The decal placement charts for the different versions were very clear and easy to follow. I did find a couple of numerical typos with respect to decal identification and placement but those were easily found and corrected. Over all this is one awesome kit for the $349 Motion sells it for. I am a happy camper indeed and just need to find the time to maiden this new bird! As for the three items I did not like thats more personal taste than kit or completed model quality, so I am not deducting any stars for those things. Five stars all the way from me! I can't wait for the HellCat to come out even though my model budget it taking a real beating! I will update with maiden information but I suspect after reading others reports that it will be a very enjoyable maiden.Blue Skies

I think right out of the box the plane flew just OK. It was not as fast as they said it was, and 1 propeller turn faster than the other one making the 8 around adjustment quite noticeable. Also the canopy does not latch well near the back side. I think the fine wire that was used to hold it down was a poor design. The magnets to hold the canopy on in-flight thank goodness. But after some of you just meant with the air around it does fly straight and looks very cool with the lights.

This is the model I've been waiting for! This was my first BIG plane and it is doing everything I'd hoped. It went together fairly easily. (Couple of wiring frustrations, but that's RC) Loads of power, even here in Denver. Looks and sounds awesome. Easy to fly. Real attention getter at the flying site!

Wife bought me this plane 1 month back. I have about 20 flights on it now and I can say this is the easiest plane I have flown in a long time. Although it doesn't handle like a snap rolling sport plane, but the gracefull loops and rolls are a sight to see. Each time I taxi out, all eyes are on this plane. All parts fit great and I have had no issues yet. Just a blast to fly. I'm using 3,000 4 cells and get about 6 minutes at mostly 2/3 throttle. Easy to set up and fly. What a joy!!!

I got up the courage to take her up for the maiden today and I have to say that I was blown away! Smooth flyer right out of the box. I built her following the manual and the videos and only needed a couple clicks aileron trim (probably wind). This plane has me sold on FlightlineRC so I'm about to pull the trigger on the Sea Fury and will probably preorder the Bearcat. Great job guys!

Plane and packaging are first class. Instructions for building the airframe are good. However, there are virtually no mentions of any wiring routing. I ended up assembling the main center section by the instructions before I knew I had to route the extensions for the wing flaps, ailerons and lights before gluing down the plastic shields over the wire channel. The build video was fairly good but I didn't see it until it was too late. I put all the decals on, painted the guns flat black and th landing gear silver. I have loved the p-38 since I was a kid and the green model is spectacular.

The P-38 lightning is my favorite all-time warbird. For years I have sought after a true-scale, foam P-38 to add to my hangar. I've flown nearly every foam P-38 out there and while most have decent flight characteristics, I could never find a foam P-38 that came close to great performance, features and scale fidelity. Until now. The FlightLineRC P-38 is truly a force to be reckoned with in the foam category. While concessions will always have to be made in order to keep the price point sensible (struts, raking, wheels, etc), this is about as close as it gets to a quality, very scale, feature-rich P-38 in the foam market.I've had about 30 sorties with mine so far and each and every time I am rewarding with a fantastic flying experience. Looks and feels like you're flying the real deal, just shrunk down a bit. I can only say that about a precious few in this hobby. The stock wheels are, meh, but easily and cheaply upgradeable. You can forward rake the gear with a simple mod as well as ad screen mesh to the intakes (among other things) to really scale this girl out. With my dual 3000 mAh LiPo batteries I am easily achieving 8+ minute sorties flying scale. There's not much I would suggest adding to this P-38 which by itself is a massive testament to how nice this really is especially at this price point. Better wheels, rake and struts out of the box would be my top wants. True fowler flaps would be amazing but then there goes that price point. :)If you're on the fence, jump off and snag it. I guarantee you won't regret it.
