The site was gorgeous, exactly as we expected. We knew it was going to be chilly and rainy on two of our five days but we are cold blooded so we thought we would be fine. Then it SNOWED! The hosts were quick to respond and brought us as much propane as we needed for the heater (super simple to use.) We and our dogs were warm enough in the tent with the heater on, but unless you like to sleep cold, and you’re going during cold months, bring extra clothes! The site was well equipped with a propane stove and tools, and we were given a kettle upon arrival. I don’t know if the listing states, but there is a port-a-potty on each of their sites! Definitely helpful, although the “loo” in the tent really didn’t stink at all (even when we were stuck inside because of the snow). They had most of everything you will need, including things like hand sanitizer and toilet paper in the port-a-potty as well as sunscreen, bug spray, trash bags, paper towels, etc. There are even games under the bed! (We left one we bought and enjoyed for future campers). There was clean water provided both for drinking and washing up. The only thing I would recommend bringing (aside from food, clothes, extra water, etc) would be some kind of dish soap you can also use for your hands. We forgot ours and did miss it. We also think their property is perfect for a small family reunion or friends vacation, the two sites both come with an additional tent and the sites are nice and flat for setting those up. You can even bring floaters and ride the river from one campsite to the other like a lazy river! The sites are far enough away to have complete visual privacy, and sounds from each will definitely be muted: however it is QUIET! UP! THERE! So I wouldn’t be surprised if some sound travels. Another commenter said that you could hear the traffic from the site but they must have super sonic hearing because we could only hear planes as they went by. There IS a constant hum, but it is literally just the sound of the river. We were free to roam their property which our dogs enjoyed, there is a giant grassy field behind the tents, and cows on the other side of the property, as well as a hefty chunk of river to walk by and explore. If you couldn’t tell, we enjoyed our stay and have been non-stop recommending it to everyone. We are definitely going to come back ourselves, but probably when the weather is warmer. My husband got in almost every day but it was too cold for me! Thanks again for everything!

Like everyone else says, the photos do not do this place justice! This was my first experience using Tentrr and it was an anniversary gift to my boyfriend which in his words was the “best gift!” James was such a pleasant host and responded to any requests/questions in a timely manner. The location was great and secluded, but still had easy access to get into town. I will certainly be staying here again when we return. Also, if you’re a bigger family James has another Tentrr on property that is walking distance but you still have privacy. I’m hoping to return with some friends for the next trip and rent out both spaces! One more thing to add, the bed was comfier than my own at home!!!

The experience at Skipping Rock far exceeded our expectations. The prepared campsite met all of our needs. The property site is gorgeous and the camp keepers ensured that we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Our family will definitely be returning to enjoy the river during warmer weather. Thanks to James and family for having us!

James and Lynn were wonderful hosts. The tent and site was clean and cozy. Despite the strong winds in mid March, the tent and site held up well. Hearing the cows off in the distance mooing as the sun rose was a nice bonus.

We had a lovely time at this beautiful campsite located an easy drive from Charlottesville. The site was well-supplied and the hosts were very welcoming! The propane heater in the tent kept us warm and we had a very comfortable stay!
