“It is not very often that a listing’s description and photos are exceeded by the real McCoy. This was, undoubtedly, one of those rare exceptions. The hosts, Jim and Patty, were helpful, friendly and shared a wealth of knowledge regarding the area and White Mountains. This site cannot be beat. The seclusion is so rare, the location is so stunning (there’s no good reason to leave really), and the thoughtful and beautiful touches throughout the campsite make this beyond a 5 star hidden gem. Three trails from the campsite, a gurgling brook that runs along the entire acerage, a mountain fed trout - stocked swimming hole on-site, a separate adorable hand made cabin with great views both inside and out, rolling fields, boats, games, limitless stars………
But maybe the very best part of Lava Rock was recognizing the (often forgotten) quiet serenity that only the simplicity of living and breathing outdoors can grant us.
A true “can’t miss” experience for the pros and the “not so” pros alike.

“Third Summer at Lava Rock. Jim makes great improvements every year. Awesome site. If you want to lay on your back in a an ancient volcanic caldera and see a stunning night sky, it's here. The only lights are the stars and fireflies. The only noises you will hear at night are owls hooting. Horseshoe pits, trout pond and privacy. I could rant on but won't. Nothing but good things to say...”
“Magical. Absolutely gorgeous location with so much to do or just relax, campsite upgraded in every conceivable way, and such kind property owners too. We couldn’t ask for a better family getaway. Can’t wait to return!”
“I wish I could write a bad review so that I could keep this place to myself, but I cannot think of anything even remotely bad to say. I’ll try though— too much beauty it puts the rest of the world to shame? Too magically secluded that you’ll feel like Snow White’s dwarves could greet you at any second? Too balanced between rustic camp site and modern touches that you’ll never want to leave? Too friendly of an owner that you’d just as easily spend the day talking to him and roaming his immaculately maintained grounds as you would enjoying the serenity of the rolling mountain meadow and crystal clear pond (complete with sand, a canoe, adirondak chairs, fountain, and beautiful dock of course)? As much as I want this place all to myself, I could never give it anything less than a perfect review!”
“Lovely area in the woods, had great fun camping as a group of us for a long weekend. Great amenities, were surprised by the flush toilet in the outhouse and bad of charcoal briquettes for the grill. We went for a couple hikes that had great views of the area, and played some outdoor badminton we had brought in the field and had a picnic by the pond. Our little dog was also very happy camping here. Do be prepared for ticks, we checked 2-3 times a day and had no issues with missing any of the little buggers but next time would prep our clothes with permethrin just to not have to deal with it. Happy camping!”
