“Good or should say the best touring bike on a long journey. If you want to have a commuter bike or a city bike, look something else. The engine is rough compare to a Jap. bike, like an agriculture machine.
Very comfy and powerful on a long tour.
Tried the rest and will keep the best. GS 1200”
“Never thought I would be seen on a GS. Put my prejudice aside and tried one. If you don't get sucked into being a pretend global tourer and over-bling the bike.....they are real blast to ride as i expect most of the big soft roadrs are. engine is like a couple of bricks on a string pulling away but engine braking into a corner and getting on the torque curve early on the exit is more fun than my supersport tourer. If you like me had a big trailie when younger (klr650) you will feel right at home on a gs”
“I find this bike a great allrounder, just as good for bringing home the shopping, a run round Wales, or a run to Bulgaria. It is surprisingly light for a machine of its size and weight, and I have had no reliability issues. I think it helps to be tall to enjoy it, even though people of many sizes get on well. My wife finds it hard to get in and off due to the height. If you are going off road and have big feet, it helps to fit larger footpegs, otherwise the standard bike is very capable.”
“Easy to ride, comfortable and handles brilliantly, even when two up and fully loaded with luggage.
The downsides are that it's expensive to service, the battery life is awful and the gearbox is a bit clunky.
I've had mine for over ten years and plan to replace it with another GS.”
“For a 2006 bike this is about as good as it gets. Enough power for any road in the uk and handling like a sports bike (and Iv owned a lot of sports bikes).”
