Bike handles and goes like a dream, however in the 1st 12 months the bike has had various warranty issues. 1, brake resorvoir cap leaking, 2, oil leak around starter motor, 3, screen replaced due to cracking, 4, screen bolts replace due to falling out. 5, drive shaft replaced due to corrosion, 6, recall for side switch sand. All handled with no issues. I do worry about the build quality, BMW have certainly let it slip.

HI I have been driving many motorcycles in my life. I am italian. I found BMW a good all around type of motorbike but I am disappointed with the way it is built. For instant £ 14300 motorbike i would expect the overall plastic structure to be much better quality and also to have more covered points. I do not think this motorbike would even last for more than a year if I use it off road every day. - They should completely redesign the plastic junctures of the front part. The back part from engine to back well is great. It is the front part that is very poor - There are too many plastic parts that donot connect properly, vibrations make them move too much - If you really want to use this motorbike every day and keep it clean a nice, they should close all the "Holes" the plastics have from front. - The indicators buttons are too far from the hand.. you need to have 35 cm hands long to avoid leaving the hand off the handle - The plastic cup of the tack fall inside after 3 months - The exhausted butterfly valve makes a very weird sound. This was reported to BMW and they say until is broken cannot be replaced and it is not so important for the motorbike that is fine...than if not..take it off! - The gear pack is a bit noise and also the gears are not as smooth as on I was expecting - When you insert the first gear..it really enter with huge push and sound is not great - This motorbike has been designed to make money, all the little problems things are not there because the BMW did not know about it, but because there is a huge accessories business for BMW being it, so they love to give you a motorbike with "defects" so you spend additional 4K to make it at is shoudl out of the factory. Apart all the above, the engine is really good for a 2 cilinder, much better than the past, but KTM is much better and more powerful and it does not have all the above issues... I think the next purchase will be a KTM after i finished my 3 years with BMW. I would prefer BMW to ask me 2K more and sell me the motorbike as it should instead of leaving holes everywhere and i need to bother myself to by, cylinder protection, close the hole that brings the air into the engine to cool, because there is nto ever a net!! and all moschito comes into it...enlarge the brake pedal because it is too small, increase the mud protector becyase they one they give you is far too small...protect the cyclinder becyase when you go off road...all the stones hit the cilinders! Front Plastic fall apart.... Engine 1 to 10 (for a 2 cylinder) - 7 (KTM and Ducati are better) Finishing - 5 (KTM and DUCATI are better) Optional on series (14K) Abs, Ads...- 8 better BMW) driving experience overall 8 (KTM and DUCATI are much easier handling Cheers.

Perfect until some a myopic van driver doing ~30mph ran into me whilst stationary at a roundabout. By some miracle I stayed upright and the bike stayed pretty much together. I thank BMW's build quality for the fact I had no injuries; in spite of the front n/s corner of the van being very badly damaged, and the o/s pillion footpeg on the bike taking the impact and folding into the frame which was seriously distorted, I was able to ride the bike home and suffered no ill-effects other than being shaken up. The bike has had a new frame now, and is back to the way it was before but of course it no longer 'feels' like my bike. Love my GS. When I come to replace it, I'll be buying another one.

This is my second GS and I love it. Bit overpriced because it's a BMW.

Overall a good bike till my ABS failed and BMW said it was out of warranty £1000 to replace. I changed the original seat due to low comfort levels to a sargent seat. Most recent failure was the fuel sensor strip £100 to replace and now the calibration of the fuel gauge is completely wrong waiting to get it back to the dealer to fix. .
