I did not enjoy the process leading up to the practicum. The amount of studying required for weeks beforehand felt excessive and did not align with an effective learning experience. The practicum itself was exhausting, and from an instructional design perspective, I did not see evidence of meaningful knowledge transfer. If a learning theory or model was used, it was not apparent in the structure or delivery of the program. I did appreciate the opportunity to meet new people and I genuinely enjoyed the speakers, but those were the only positive aspects of the experience for me. Here’s a clear, thorough rewrite that folds your new points in smoothly and ends with the assessment question in a strong, thoughtful way: Further, I did not appreciate having to memorize a large amount of content in a short period of time. The open-book exam also felt counterproductive. In theory, an open-book assessment should reduce pressure and allow learners to demonstrate applied understanding, but with only 2.5 hours, there was not enough time to locate answers effectively. In practice, this meant the exam was only “open book” in name, not in function. Given these issues, I question whether this format is the best way to assess whether learners have truly understood the concepts. There are more effective assessment approaches that align better with learning science and would more accurately measure comprehension and application. Here’s a polished continuation that answers your own question with solid alternatives grounded in learning science—clear, direct, and professional: More effective assessment methods could include: 1. Scenario-based application tasks Instead of memorizing terminology, learners could work through realistic training-management scenarios that mirror what a CPTM would actually handle—intake decisions, stakeholder alignment, selecting the right solution type, planning evaluation strategy, etc. This assesses judgment and understanding, not short-term recall. 2. Spaced, low-stakes knowledge checks during the modules Short quizzes woven throughout the learning process would reinforce key concepts over time instead of forcing learners to cram. This is tied directly to cognitive science principles of spaced retrieval. 3. A structured performance task rather than a timed open-book exam A performance-based assessment—such as building a mini training plan or analyzing a case study—would show whether learners can apply the framework effectively. This is a far more accurate measure of real-world competence. 4. A practicum designed around collaboration and problem-solving Instead of an endurance-based experience, the practicum could focus on group analysis, strategic conversations, and guided synthesis. This would model good instructional design and facilitate genuine knowledge transfer. 5. Reflection-based submissions Asking learners to document their reasoning, decisions, and insights reinforces understanding and helps assess conceptual mastery without relying on recall.

I wanted to level up my credibility as a learning leader, and it turns out Training Industry’s CPTM program was exactly what I needed. The online learning set the stage perfectly for the three-part certification—it really got me thinking about Streamline VRS, our current challenges, and where we can make improvements. Huge thanks to our instructor Dan Menden, visiting CPTM Phoebe Lee, and founder Doug Harward for bringing the experience to life. I’m walking away with new insights, stronger competencies, and fresh strategies I can’t wait to put into action at Streamline VRS!

I am from Saudi Arabia, and although English is not my first language, I was able to follow the CPTM program smoothly and pass the exam. The content was very clear, well-structured, and practical, making it easy to apply the concepts in real work situations. Overall, it was a valuable learning experience that helped me grow as an L&D professional.

Completing the Certified Professional in Training Management (CPTM™) program was a game-changer for me. The program provided practical tools and frameworks that helped me connect training initiatives directly to business outcomes. I especially appreciated the balance of flexibility and depth—the self-paced modules fit into my schedule, while the real-world case studies and peer discussions brought the concepts to life. Since earning my CPTM™, I feel more confident in aligning learning with organizational goals, managing resources effectively, and demonstrating the true value of training to leadership. I highly recommend CPTM™ to anyone in L&D who wants to elevate their role from training delivery to true business impact.

The CPTM program was highly beneficial, offering a wealth of valuable knowledge and insights. The course was well-organized, the materials provided were of high quality, and overall accessibility was excellent. However, I believe the exam could be adjusted to better accommodate non-native English speakers. The current time limit is challenging, particularly because some questions are lengthy and require additional time to read and fully understand. Allowing more time or simplifying the language could help ensure a fairer assessment for all participants. Despite this, my experience with the program was very positive, and I would recommend it to others seeking to expand their expertise in this field.
