“I was curious to see if I could lower the noise floor just a bit in my phono pre without damaging any of the wonderful sonics. It wasn't inexpensive but adding a pair of these GLs to the first gain stage not only dropped the noise floor by a few dB but also provided some sonic bloom in the form of dynamics, smoothness, and richer midrange. I deliberately went for the quietest option available (Kevin's Stash) and was very happy with the result. Honestly, if you don't go for at least the Platinum grade you're just not going to get the quietest performance your phono pre deserves. It's fair to say that you can trust Kevin's tube grading.”

“Great tube for my McIntosh MC275 and C2300. And they look cool! Warning: I bought two previous sets from other large tube dealers and they didn't last 9 months. The power tubes went soft and the 12AX7's were never that quiet. This set from Upscale was so much more quiet, and at is 2.5 years they are still perfect. I can tell they were actually tested and graded. It's the best sound I've ever had thanks to Upscale. I've had tube gear for 40 years now and will never buy anywhere else.”

“Kevin is great to deal with. I bought these to replace the original Primaluna's in a Dialogue 2. This is a definite upgrade with better bass, very smooth sound. I would agree with Kevin's comment that they are slightly more laid back.”

“Very pleased with these. Previously had used a pair of new-production Mullard, and they always seemed a touch dark in my phono preamp. The Gold Lion Platinum+Cryo sound much more open and have a nice midrange that extends well into the upper range. Bass response isn't as large as the Mullard valves, but sounds more neutral. Would recommend these to anyone looking for a good set of 12AX7/ECC83 valves.”
