this is a very good tube, warm with sweet tone, well balanced with tight clean bass, great soundstage and air. might be a little rough the first few hours, make sure to burn the tube in, it really opens up. solid tube and much much better than any of the new production rectifiers available!

As a number of others have stated, this is really a great tube. It made a big difference in my ASL Tulip 2A3. Highly recommended.

I swapped out my solid-state Weber WZ 68s for a pair of these in my tube amps. Plenty of juice for KT-88s or -120s. The gradual start-up is added protection for one's expensive output tubes, the sound is smoother, and the Philips also look way cool in the dark.

The Telefunken GZ34 in my amp died, so first place I look is Upscale. Excited to see a highly "Uncle Kevvy recommended" replacement; I ordered two so I'd have a spare. Initial impressions upon installation is of a very lean, very delicate sound. Lots of "air", great upper midrange (female vocals, sax, upper register on piano) but little mid-bass and bass compared to old Telefunken. String bass, electric bass, drum hits seem thin. Now I'm 50 hours in and it's maybe a little better. Will update if significant improvement occurs but right now I'm back searching the internet for NOS Telefunken or Sylvania GZ34 as recommended by my amp's builder. IMO these Phillips are likely a good fit for a dark or very bass-heavy system; not so much for mine.

Breathed new life into my Dialouge Premium Preamplifier over the stock rectifier. If you like that breathy quality without Sibilance.. this is the tube. It supplied the detail that I was looking for

Tubes are system dependent as what works in one circuit may not work as well in another circuit. This rectifier works amazing well in a Fi 2a3 and in a Modwright outboard power supply, replacing pricey EMLs. In both places it was a Whoa moment. In other words more music. Thanks Kevin and staff!

Improvements across the board. Removed sibilance of the Chinese rectifier. Great bass and a "sense of ease" regardless of volume setting on the WA6SE. This tube is a bargain.

Until now, I was more in the camp of "rectifiers, not being in the sound path, don't make a big sonic difference." IMO, with the Philip 5R4GYS, that's not the case. Great power rectification does, in fact, influence the sound you hear. My new Decware SE34I.3 clearly sounds more alive with the Philips rectifier compared to my prior stock "Chinese" 5U4G or NOS Sylvania 5U4GB rectifiers. To my surprise, all aspects of the sound improved, greater clarity, deeper soundstage, better imaging, smoother midrange and top end and deeper, more controlled bass. I would give these tubes 5 stars, except for the fact that I have not heard other vintage NOS rectifiers to compare, nor have I heard premium EML 5U4G which could be better (or not) at 6x the price! Buy this tube, you will be happy.
