“The Fly12 Sport is a big improvement over my first generation Fly12. Image stabilization is excellent even when riding on rough roads. The unit is much smaller. Run time in record only mode is about 5 hours. This is usually adequate except on my “all day” rides. Personally I’d like a larger battery. Perhaps Cycliq can offer an external battery pack with a connection that doesn’t compromise the water and dust protection of the charging port. In short, the Fly12 Sport is a good addition to my bike commuting tool box.”
“Nice design, compact and robust. Size and weight are very good for the included features. Three buttons for operating the device work flawlessy. Battery is nice - long rides with video and lights on are now possible. Volume for feedback beeps is low - especially if used within the silicone protection case. Incident detection works good. USB C port is nice. Only digital image stabilization. NO ANT+ neither for light nor for camera - which is a big downgrade from the Fly12 CE. Image quality in darkness is very poor, even if additional bike lamp is lighting up the road ahead. App is poor; can't access videos/pictures. Display doesn't show correct battery level when plugged off after charging (shows 25-50% even if battery is 100%). No easy way to change watermark described.
IF better video quality in darkness and ANT+ and better app and optical image stabilization would make it, the price would be reasonable, especially with the nice battery run time.
It could have been so much better after ten years in the making...”
“I’ve had the previous generation Fly12 for the last 2 years and love it. I ride in the early morning 2-3 times a week and need good lighting, and I was excited about the new F12 Sport coming out. The newer Fly12 Sport is smaller and lighter with better features, but its light is not as bright. Moreover the light projection is much more narrow which creates peripheral dark areas. This is unsettling when pulling my ride group at the front at 22-23mph at 80-90% effort and I can’t see obstacles in the road in time to avoid them or point them out. I’ve moved back to my older Fly12 for these rides and use the new F12 Sport for daytime rides. I hope Cycliq can address this issue in the future and maybe offer a range of products with different lighting features. If you don’t have a Cycliq, I still highly recommend them for safety reasons, but beware if you need a really good headlight - you might want a backup/alternate for the nighttime rides.”
“The greatest fault of the previous version of the Fly 12 was battery life. The device was made for cycling, but wouldn't last more than 75 miles on a charge. The Fly 12 Sport is an improvement, for sure, but still misses the mark for battery life. For most of us, our long rides are centuries. The average bloke with enough $ to equip his bike with front and rear cameras is going to average 18 to 20 mph. Can't get the Fly 12 Sport to last an entire century without turning off the headlight. Got 97 miles with the headlight turned off until light conditions required it. Cycliq made it smaller, but why not keep it the same size with a large enough battery? A miss is as good as a mile on battery life. Need to get a lot faster, or carry a second unit or a battery bank to recharge at rest stops. Another flaw is the inability to use supplemental power while riding. A good unit. Really the only true option out there. Just needs to last longer on a charge.”
“Very good recording quality.
I needed the latest PC to check movie qualty--;
Long battery time for riding compared with my old FLY6.
(It should be enough for summertime raiding)
It should help me when I get next traffic accident.”
“It's smaller than the previous version, and looks better protected from sudden rain. The device seems well made and battery life is much better. You'll only wear it down in the lower flashing setting on a really long marathon. Picture quality is good. Having a guide on the back to what the thing is up to is great but you can't see it when you're riding. Linkage to your phone is useful if you mount it on your bike.
Less good features - the buttons don't have a positive feel and I can't operate them even with thin full finger gloves. I'm not convinced the buttons will outlive the guarantee.
Finally it is pretty pricy. Fair enough, it is the Bentley of the bike cameras, but you can get a fair bike for the price of a Fly 6 & 12 together.
Overall though I do like it and I certainly recommend it to others. I've witnessed successful prosecution of a dangerous driver thanks to a fellow club member's videos from their Cycliq.”
“Excellent product. The only thing I don’t like is that you replaced the flexible retention cable with a rigid one. I had to reuse the cable from my last Fly12 in order to get the cord around and onto my handlebars.”
