“You get what you pay for. I didnt pay a lot for this chess set so didnt expect top quality. Having said that, it does look good. Just bought it to play chess. Id have paid more if I wanted to display it on the middle of the table.”
“Great quality, from packaging to opening it. Really nice board, with lightweight pieces. Overall a great travel board due to weight and size. Sits nicely on a corner of a desk or counter. Big enough to feel like it is a big chess set, but compact enough to use almost anywhere.”
“I dont normally write reviews but I was really impressed by the chess set. It was so beautifully packaged I decided to keep it all together to also preserve the quality of the set. It also came wrapped in a newspaper style wrapping with some interesting history, a really nice touch! Beautiful quality and such great value. You wont be disappointed if you purchase.”
“Jaques needs better quality control of its products. Chess board has numerous areas which have not been varnished and contains scratches. The two halves of the board do not align correctly so the squares and trim around the board do not match up. Furthermore, the hinges protrude from the bottom of the board so it is not possible to lay the board completely flat. Consequently half the board is at a slight angle and pressure causes it to rock which is very annoying. Hinges should have been recessed or something equivalent. Not what I would expect from a "Luxury" chess set or a company which claims it has over 225 years of history making these type of items.”
