About Jaques of London:
In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. This is now stocked with over 150 free resources. We’ve been working for over 230 years to fill the world with more joy and we hope to keep striving for that goal long into the future. “You get what you pay for. I didnt pay a lot for this chess set so didnt expect top quality. Having said that, it does look good. Just bought it to play chess. Id have paid more if I wanted to display it on the middle of the table.”

“Great quality, from packaging to opening it. Really nice board, with lightweight pieces. Overall a great travel board due to weight and size. Sits nicely on a corner of a desk or counter. Big enough to feel like it is a big chess set, but compact enough to use almost anywhere.”

“I dont normally write reviews but I was really impressed by the chess set. It was so beautifully packaged I decided to keep it all together to also preserve the quality of the set. It also came wrapped in a newspaper style wrapping with some interesting history, a really nice touch! Beautiful quality and such great value. You wont be disappointed if you purchase.”
