About Jaques of London:
In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. This is now stocked with over 150 free resources. We’ve been working for over 230 years to fill the world with more joy and we hope to keep striving for that goal long into the future. “Very very lightweight board.Too lightweight...no feeling of quality.Not sure what the main structure is made from but I was hoping for something much more substantial.The pieces themselves feel somewhat flimsy.Altogether a big disappointment”

“Fabulous! I was a bit worried after reading some recent reviews so had to check all pieces on arrival before rewrapping it, as it will be a gift. No problems found. I think the handmade nature of the set gives it lots of character. I think its lovely to be able to buy an item like this in this day and age but perhaps some people dont appreciate a hand crafted aesthetic.”

“Its a great chess set, however once you start playing the lack of 2 queens for promotion can be quite annoying, often find myself underpromoting to a rook just for easiness of play, quality is acceptale also but could be better”

“Overall, for the price its a good chess set, however, there are multiple minor flaws such as some pieces being chipped and also a noticeable misalignment with the two sides of the board once folded open. I would recommend the set for someone trying to buy their first beginner set, but other than that the quality isnt out of this world.”
