About Jaques of London:
In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. This is now stocked with over 150 free resources. We’ve been working for over 230 years to fill the world with more joy and we hope to keep striving for that goal long into the future. “Basic set, the pieces didnt have a great finish, feel rough and one was slightly broken. We have had many hours of fun but for the price I was disappointed in the overall quality. Im sure a replacement would have been sorted quickly but its a hassle no one wants or needs and it should have arrived high quality as advertised from the start.”

“Incredible quality at a very reasonable price. Bought as a Christmas gift for my 17 yr old. He is going to love it! Beautiful wooden pieces and board. Great design with the pieces stored individually inside the folded board. I can’t wait for a game of chess on Christmas day on this chess board.”

“I ordered this for my 11 year old nephew for Christmas as he has really got in to Chess recently. I was hoping that it would be a present that he would keep for years to come and when it arrived wow! The packaging is brilliant, hand tied with a ribbon and then the chess set was wrapped inside the box too. Mine was packaged by Emma so thank you Emma! The quality is great, much better than a lot of other chess boards I have seen in this price range. The pieces are all neatly stored under the board and all folds away nicely. This is a really lovely gift and I am so pleased with it!”
