In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. “Its a good value, handmade chess set. There are few little scratches and few finishing of bits that have stopped me giving it 5 stars. Perhaps QC needs a little more care. But then again it didnt cost 100!”

“Buy for me and my 6 year old son. I really like the style. So I chose a foldable one in the lower range but well 2 times more than anotherSo I am a little torn apart, the sun pieces are not stable certain 78 inches all alone with a petite souffleSo the price is not good quality.. DamageBut in the end it is a toy”

“Excellent value for money, even excluding sales. Solid wood top and parts, superb finishes and very refined packaging. I highly recommend ! For the seller just be careful about the translation in French Folding Chess and Checkers instead of Folding Chess and Drafts.”

“I bought this game, the packaging is nice, it tells a story. As in the previous comment, there is a space between the 2 sides of the chopper with a larger game.The big problem with 8 points is that the base is not the plate that I had to remove myself.The width of the chopper is 37.5cm the height of the king is 7.5cm. the birds are loose.”

“Well packaged and presented. Reasonably well made for the price range with a very nice board. Chess pieces could have been a little better finished but again, quite typical within this price range.I do wish the board had rank and file notation to assist with teaching but overall impression is good.”
