About Jaques of London:
In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. “Basically a good chess game. Most of the pieces are well made. Its a shame that there is a big scratch on my board. The varnish is also missing from this one. The varnish has chipped off other areas of the board, and these areas now have unsightly white edges. The rooks look very different in black. But Im sure that this doesnt happen with other Jaques chess games.”

“The chessboard arrived quickly and in good condition. For 26 euros I wasnt expecting a magnificent chessboard but the gluing is really rough on one side and it seems clearly a lack of care because the other parts of the chessboard are perfect. Too bad because we can really see this defect and I cant scrape off this glue otherwise it would make the visual appearance even worse.”
