About Jaques of London:
In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. “The chessboard arrived quickly and in good condition. For 26 euros I wasnt expecting a magnificent chessboard but the gluing is really rough on one side and it seems clearly a lack of care because the other parts of the chessboard are perfect. Too bad because we can really see this defect and I cant scrape off this glue otherwise it would make the visual appearance even worse.”

“Unfortunately, in my opinion, it was not very well made. I wanted to give the chessboard away as a gift and I didnt want to do that in this condition. The wood had already split in some areas. Thats why the chessboard went back. Otherwise, the condition was good, hence 3 stars.”

“Does not open well flat. The parts are much too light. A gust of wind, a wrong move, your game is on the ground. Its actually not expensive, but its worth the price and the cost, no doubt about it.”
