About Jaques of London:
In 1795 Thomas Jaques took on his 15-year-old son, John as an apprentice. Together they established ‘Thomas Jaques: Manufacturer of Ivory, Hardwoods, Bone and Tunbridge Ware’ in Hatton Garden. We have remained a family run business ever since, with the same unwavering passion for quality games and toys.

Today we are ever-expanding our toy range and have been honoured with over 10 awards in the past five years as a result. Our Mini Minds Hub launched in 2020 to encourage learning at home. This is now stocked with over 150 free resources. We’ve been working for over 230 years to fill the world with more joy and we hope to keep striving for that goal long into the future. Why not come along for the trip with us!

Although the chess board is satisfactory, the chess pieces are very light and fall out of the holes very easily! Not fit for purpose for a travel chess set. My attempt to return the set for a full refund failed because the postal charge was not covered by Jaques. Very disappointing overall.

It's tiny. It's made of wood. It's a fully functioning chess set that I'm going to take on holiday with us and was a million times more appealing than the usual ugly magnetic travel sets. For under a tenner (including postage) this feels like an impossibility in 2024. I would have been happy to pay double for such a lovely item, Jaques. It also arrived quickly and was beautifully hand packaged - consider me impressed!

The quality of the chess set is great, it’s very well made. My one criticism is that the pieces don’t fit very tightly into the holes and fall out at the lightest touch. As it’s used as a travel chess set this makes it a little difficult not to lose the pieces

Pieces are really tiny and don’t fit into the holes snugly. Wouldn’t recommend, I’m afraid

Very efficient delivery. Well packaged in 'gift wrap' style. All as described online. Only criticism is that chess pieces do not fit snugly in holes on board so are easily dislodged. As a 'travel set' this defeats the whole purpose of being able to play whilst in transit. Magnetic chess pieces/board is therefore a better option.
