“To me, the worst part about owning chickens is opening and closing the coop door. Will it get too hot inside the coop with the door closed if I sleep a little later? Will a predator get them if I’m late getting home to close the coop door? Seems silly but it was a place of concern more times than I care to admit. So... I bought an automatic chicken door. It’s been amazing! The mornings were a no brainer - sunrise = door open... but the sunset/door close time has proven to be more of a guessing game. I set it for sunset... half my girls were locked out... so I set it for 1 hr after sunset and found I was watching to make sure they were safe. Now I’m at 15 minutes after sunset, and all but one seems to be getting the hang of getting inside before the door closes. The unit itself is easy to operate. It has a manual option (so I can let the straggler inside) but you must remember to exit all the way out to put it back in “sun mode” which is easily the best idea on the chicken door planet. It’s adjusting open and close times, all by itself! So far, I haven’t set up the solar feature yet, I installed it a week ago and have only running on batteries right now, but it’s performance has been worth every penny. I would highly recommend getting one.”
“Took me a while to get the digital part figured out but works great. One chicken didn’t get the memo the first night but after that we’ve had them all going in every night as planned. This is worth the peace of mind of not having to worry about varmints getting in and taking your precious flock. Very happy with this purchase.”
