Baby Chicks: Blue/Black Favaucana Female Reviews

4.6 Rating 124 Reviews
We love the look and personality of these hens! Very sweet, friendly and vocal. We ordered two and once they reached laying age discovered that one of our hens is not laying a green egg but rather a pinkish tan. We were disappointed with the color of the egg as we had chosen the breed in part to add some diversity to our egg colors. Five stars for beauty and personality!

Ordered two day old Fauvacanas last year and three others (Barred Plymouth Rock, Cochin, Golden Buff). The Favaucana's stand out as the noisiest and least sociable. I got them because they were categorized in "friendliest breeds," but from day one they were the least friendly and most skittish and spazzy. The Barred Rock is an angel and so aware of people and so curious. The golden and Cochin are also easy to handle and social, but the Favs never came around. They're interesting, sure, but what a couple weirdos! Save your $$ and get a Barred Plymouth Rock. So sweet.

I have had my 'Skylar' a year and a half now. She lays gorgeous green eyes everyday. She is chatty, smart, sweet and inquisitive. From a pecking order standpoint...she's in the middle, which is perfect...not too bossy and not too docile. A great hen. You cannot go wrong.

I bought two Blue Favaucanas last January. They are beautiful birds and sweet to me, but they are LOUD! They are constantly yelling--and heaven forbid if they see you coming! This is not a huge deal, but being in the city, we probably wouldn't order them again for the sake of our neighbors. Additionally, they are definitely the "Queens" of our flock. They pick on the other hens quite a bit and have systematically ripped out everyone's feathers (our run and coop are plenty big, so we know it's just personality). When we've given them a "time out", the flock recovers and no one loses feathers. They are good, consistent layers of beautiful medium size olive/sage eggs. I suspect they would be great birds as free rangers, but we live in the city which makes this impossible. Highly recommended to free-rangers looking for a confident bird with alarm system qualities!

i purchased mille fleurs, silkies, porcelains, and buff brahamas straight run. i also purchased a favacauna hen so i could get a good layer and i wanted the green eggs. Trudy isnt a as friendly as my silkies and mille fleur's and porcelains but she will eat out of my hand and she isnt a mean bird. im surprised that she is also very good to my other smaller chickens; ive never seen her pick on any of them. im still waiting on the eggs; hopefully soon since its winter and she is currently only 4 months old.

My first order was a USPS disaster. I ordered 9 chickens to arrive 6/17/17 all different breeds and it was obvious that the post office mishandled them because this little baby was one of the only two to survive shipping. She was and still is one of my spunkiest hens. She looks exactly like the main picture with 5 toes, the fluffiest beard, and the most beautiful gray blue coloring. She makes the funniest, almost honking, noises and when I enter the coop with scratch she will start jumping/hopping straight up in the air at the cup. Although she’s one of my smallest birds she runs the show and at 23 weeks was the first to start laying. This little nugget lays AN EGG A DAY...I couldn’t believe it. My girl lays a small (almost bantam size) sage green egg.

Ordered a total of 9 of these, 2 died. Of the 7 left, only 3 were actually blue in color. The others were all black. Out of the 3 that were blue, 2 were very dark blue with bits of red coming through most of their feathers as well. They're all very skittish compared to my easter eggers bought at the same time. I think this "breed" needs more fine tuning before selling for such a premium price. Not really worth the high price tag at this time.

Scarlett has a great personality and loves to hop up on the waterer when she sees me standing by the coop. I bend down to say hi to her and she starts chattering away. I make similar noises and she tips her head back to listen, but I'm not sure what we're talking about, Lol. Her feathers have a beautiful pattern and the hawk look is very unique.
