“Certainly one of THE prettiest hens I've ever had. Photos just don't do them justice. Blue Favs are sooo much more beautiful in real life. Their feathers aren't only blue, but different shades of blue and gray, with beautiful tight lacing at the edges. On top of that, they have hawk-like faces that border on exotic. She also lays exquisite sage-green eggs.
She is the also the LOUDEST chicken I've ever had. She SCREAMS. SO. LOUD. Does she have literal hawk DNA? I've had chickens for 20+ years and I've never heard this type of blood-curdling scream before. If she didn't lay eggs I would've thought she was some kind of strange rooster. All day long she does this. My other girls are quiet and respectful (we live in the city!)
She is also quite dramatic, flighty, and prone to broodiness. Is this the price to pay for beauty? I love the look of Blue Favs, and I'd love to purchase more, but I'll have to wait until they invent soundproof chicken runs first. Sigh.”
“Okay, she‚Äôs beautiful. I‚Äôll give her that. Does she love me? No. Is her egg cream colored? Yes. Is that a disappointed? Big time. Is she pretty? Very.”
“I got my two Favaucanas in April with two others. We call them our Quarantine Babies. Charlie and Thumper are darlings. They are definitely mor aggressive then their Favorelles cousins, but not overly so (we have all docile girls a Snowy White EE, 2 Creme Legbars, a white Leghorn, 2 Brahmas and 2 Silkies with the above 4). They are very sweet and have more patience for cuddles then the Favorelles once you get them to settle down. They are not as quirky and clownish as the Favorelles and hold their own in the pecking order without problem, in fact Thumper let‚Äôs everyone except the Brahmas she should be in charge.
I highly recommend these girls. They are both laying every day with a day break about every 5 the day. Even with the higher price tag they are worth it.”
“We specifically got a rooster to breed with our blue-tone frizzle Easter Egger hen and he's everything you could want in a rooster...
He's gentle with his ladies when he breeds them, always on alert and watching out for his ladies... He stays right in the middle of them and ushers them around the yard to all the best spots and if one tries to wander off he runs her right back to the group. He's a gentleman with the other roosters in the yard (we have 7 that coexist peacefully.) He never starts fights or participates in them, if another rooster is giving attitude he just moves his girls to another area and minds his own business.
As far as his interaction with humans, good luck getting within 6 feet of him or his ladies. He WILL see you coming and you WILL NOT get near them. He's never attempted to attack us or fight with us - he's very much a run away sort of guy and he is GREAT at it. My husband and I have spent 30+ minutes trying to wrangle him and his ladies back into the run days when they can't be out free range in the yard.
All that to say, Even if he can be a huge pain to wrangle, he's one of my favorites because of how good he is with his ladies and the other roosters.”
“LOVE!!!!! Bertie started laying a bit late... but in the middle of our very frigid Minnesota winter! She is 71/2 months old and has a gorgeous large sage green egg. She is fluffy and cute although not the cuddliest-which is alright by me. She is smart and has very consistent "alarm bells" so will retreat immediately to the run if she hears anything alarming which, in turn, alarms the other girls. Would definitely order another from MPC!!”
“My Blue Favaucana is now 3 years old. She's funny, friendly and absolutely beautiful - and so soft! My backyard flock consists of chickens who I chose for friendliness and a docile nature and this particular girl is top hen yet a kindly and benevolent queen. She's definitely in charge but she's more a gently firm mama than an iron lady. We really love her!”
“We love this girl! She is the most consistent layer we have, and it still laying almost daily in January....The most beautiful brown eggs. We did have a little trouble with her going broody in the beginning, but we got her a couple eggs/baby chicks to hatch and she has been the best mom and happy girl ever since.”
“We aptly named her Moira Rose, and she certainly lives up to the drama. We adore her, but she's the flightiest of the bunch. She's our only full-size (rest are Bantams) but fits in very well with the flock. She sometimes plays second string to our smallest, a Mille Fleur D'Uccle (her partner in crime). Overall love having her, but lots of drama.”
