Baby Chicks: Black Copper Marans Female Reviews

4.8 Rating 140 Reviews
Out of the 8 chicks/6 breeds we ordered (they're all grown now)... Our Black Copper Maran is my favorite. She is the most friendly, to us and to all of the other chickens. She lays a giant, beautiful, speckled brown egg virtually every day - and was the first to start laying (weeks before the others). She's also super low maintenance - I swear, every other chicken has gotten into something or struggled somewhere along the way, but not her! She's been the dream chicken!

Ordered 3 BCMs out of 8 chicks that arrived in February 2023. 1 BCM was DOE (which MPC reimbursed me for). At 6 weeks, I was convinced that the one with a predatory glare was a roo, but she is in fact a hen and she lays the most beautiful dark brown egg, maybe a 5/6 on the egg chart? She started laying at 18W for me and now by 25W, her comb is large and in charge - she is one of the most talkative birds in the bunch! She lays about 4 eggs/week. The other BCM is smaller in statue/shape, lays a speckled (smaller) color 3/4 egg, but man is she PROLIFIC! She started laying at ~19W and is now consistently averaging ~6 eggs/week. In the "rainbow eggs" pic, the 2 BCM eggs are next to a wyandotte (new layer), a prairie bluebell egger, and an olive egger (who was also from that initial MPC order of 8). Love these ladies and would recommend them and the ease of using, ordering, and working with customer service from MyPetChicken again!

My Black Copper Maran females and one male are all doing well and growing. Their colors and their temperaments are outstanding. The male will become a handsome rooster.
