The journal is good because I can see that actually I'm a good person, not all the time but most of it. It's ok to not feel good all the time but th

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The Shrink and Boost cards because often students going through puberty find it difficult to navigate positively through their emotions and can't find ways out of a situation. The cards are helpful in guiding or suggesting solutions. The journal is great

I found out that they often thought they were alone in those feelings but now understand that it is common and people work through to find their own

How has this kit helped develop student resilience? We are going to keep using the kit. Resilience during puberty can take a while to build or restore. But so far students have become more self aware and how to help themselves through difficulties. We are always there for support when needed but generally

What impact has this kit had on your classroom community? Students are more understanding of each other but also about themselves. Some students are not as confident as others and the class recognises that. They are on the way to accepting that what may seem easy for some can be very difficult for others.

“The kit breaks things down into nice easy chunks for students to understand and use. As a confidence booster students could think about their strengths and how they could be used to strengthen other areas that they selected. It was great that they could do these tasks independently and be able to discuss and then provide solutions to the things they thought they needed help or to work on by themselves. Students also were confident to share ideas about themselves and receive feedback (regarding solutions) from peers. The peer group became mindful and supportive of those who indicated that they were having a difficult start to the day and it was great to see a growing empathy towards others.”

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them One student learn about breathing techniques and created a fact sheet for the class display, Many students have reflected in their journals about the benefits of deliberate teaching tips from the kit.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The most useful part of the kit however was the charging station. We now use the station at the end of each week's circle time to reflect on how we're going each week. The prompt cards are very helpful and practical too!

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? We will continue to use the charging station each week, and I hope that the students will continue to learn form the prompt cards.

What impact has this kit had on your classroom community? The students gained confidence and the ability to talk about their feelings and self regulate. They then created well being workshops for another class in the community.

“The My Self Confidence 23 kit was a great resource in our class. Our Term One Inquiry focus was Wellbeing/Hauora, and we were introducing the Te Whare Tapa Wha well-being model, so this kit perfectly aligned with the objectives we were teaching. The introductory videos were really thought-provoking, and all activities in the journal were thoughtful and challenging. The most useful part of the kit however was the charging station. We now use the station at the end of each week's circle time to reflect on how we're going each week. The prompt cards are great too!”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The videos certainly had impact where students could identify with something they didn't like or want to change about their image.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? That appearances are only skin deep and discovering ways they can self-manage their feelings and emotions and find positive solutions.

“I was really impressed with this kit. Students engaged with the content of the kit across the term. It was an insightful way to enter into the lives of the kids. I worked out which of my kids were struggling with their Hauora at the time and why. I think it taught students how to self-regulate and recognise their strengths and support needed with different parts of Hauora.”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Probably the Digital aspect. From this we were able to dig deeper and find even more digital video which focussed on different aspects of confidence and the issues with outside influencers.

How has this kit helped develop student resilience? The kit has added another level for students to add to their personal kete for when they may go through difficult times. The letter from caring adults will be a reminder that they are loved and cherished by people who have faith in them.

What impact has this kit had on your classroom community? After using the kit the class became a closer unit with multiple perspectives as to why and what their peers were experiencing.

“'My Self Confidence' was a nice way to start the school year building emotional strength and team spirit amongst the class. The 'secret' letter sent home to parents was a nice surprise for students allowing them to hear from their parents or caring adult in a very private moment. Students privately responded adding in their hopes and goals for the future. I bundled all the responses up with the plan to hand them out at the end of the year for further reflection. Along with our Inquiry, we also engaged parents more fully with after-school meetings where we used multi-media to show parents how their children felt about their online presence, about how their confidence can be rocked online and how we, as caring adults are their greatest influencers. This was a wonderful unit for the whole whanau and a good way to set up a positive atmosphere in the classroom.”
