What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We have pou standing at the main entrance to our kura, one of which is auahatanga - creativity. This kit helped our children learn about this value in such a natural way, to value it, and use it within all of our learning. Even now, they continue to talk
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will revisit these 'Class Records' in our final week, and have small groups challenge others to complete their Class Record ideas. The children have set themselves up to run everything and I can already see the growth they've made, through their conver

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Loved the new ways my students were thinking of in terms of what maths is, and the conversations that were taking place because of what was required to either try to complete a record, and/or help with recording it, and making sure it was done correctly.

I did wonder initially, if I had signed up to a Kit that was too advanced for my Year 2 level, but the DIY World Record Kit 22 really helped our Year 2 class consolidate our measurement unit we had just completed prior, and injected a great creative vibe into our class. The children were counting the least number of steps they could take across a space, the greatest number of baskets in the hoop, the longest amount of time they could go while being quiet in the class...and the wacky element added a whole new level! (e,g, singing happy birthday, walking backwards, yelling outside once every 10 minutes "I'm the greatest?"...). It was a great way for all ideas to be acknowledged and acted upon, and gave everyone a role, and a place to fit. At the height of engagement, we did one class record a day for a week. It was easier to do each one as a class, to ensure each role was performed accurately, e.g. recorders, counters etc. It allowed me to find out what strengths each student had, so I am keen to do this kit again next year at the beginning of the year, in order to get to know my children better from the start of the year. Thank you, it was just what we needed at the time.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The students wrote down their scores/results on the sheet provided so literacy was also involved.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The students are still mentioning "world records"and coming up with new ideas to use as records. I think that this will be great to use in planning for maths each year.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The children were able to link measurement with PE and to a current event. We researched the Olympics too and found it very interesting.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Using the idea of World Records to engage students in a variety of activities. We went on to focus on resilience and not having to always be first to be successful.

The challenge of coming up with records was an interesting experiment in negotiation and cooperation for the class. They are enjoying the challenging of seeing who is the World Record holder for our class in each challenge. (It is nice that it is not always who they think)

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Tamariki were mostly engaged with the kit - I think because it isn't a regular maths lesson or PE game they were able to enjoy the tasks while doing a little bit of everything rather than just focus on the maths side and so on.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We were able to take a deep dive into superlatives - deciding and giving each class member a superlative that is unique to them. This was a great way to incorporate grammar lessons.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? The kit tied in well with our measurement unit - it was a great way for tamariki to get out and give it a go as well see as how maths is used in everyday life. We were able to analyse the data which added another layer of positive mathmatical engagement.

What a fun kit! Tamariki had a wonderful time exploring world records, new language features and it tied in well with our measurement unit. I will say this kit is very time consuming - some tamariki found it challenging as they did not see success straight away - particularly the younger students in my class. I would recommend for Year 5 and up!
