How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? There were a lot of components, particularly in measurement and the idea of being accurate. It definitely encouraged students to focus on the numbers and there was a lot of talk about time, distance and weight, which in turn led to a deeper understanding of place value and decimal points (especially when results were close). The need to be accurate in a real life situation meant they were learning important number knowledge without realising.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Some students wanted to take more time learning about World records and the holders of those records. Other students loved the physical aspect, being able to push themselves further than they expected to try and break a record. This tied in nicely with learning about ourselves as learners, having resilience and perserverance.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Health and PE, Social Sciences, Oral Language
My students and I loved this kit! It had them hooked right from the beginning when they looked at existing World Records. They spent a lot of time poring over the records and finding new records to share with their peers. When they wrote their own, they couldn't wait to try them out and see who could beat them - including me! The excitement when someone new broke a record, and the willingness to give them a go was great for getting students to interact outside of their usual friend group.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Learners were still going on challenging themselves and each other while using what they had to measure their results while on camp (e.g. measure out using steps and shoes) after we completed our boks.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Writing - recording their results, recount. Reading - Reading own and other's results and measurements. Maths - Measurements as well as statistics to analyse their data and make comparrisons. PE - Some students set goals for jumps, skipping etc, which got them actively involved.
My class consist of Y5 - 6 learners. They thoughly enjoyed the unit and loved the challenges and extending themselves to set records and then working towards beating their own and other's records. I loved seeing even the less confidence learner enjoy themselves and have fun. Really great kit and resources that have made an impact on extending our measurement unit.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? The children had to think of a task that could be a world record and make up a system for recording. A lot of probability, statistics and measurement tasks were part of the process. All the students had to graph their results.
How many DIY World Records did your class make? They worked in teams of 3. No world records were made but they had so much fun trying.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Inquiry learning. Looking at how people create new opportunities and working collaboratively using questioning. trial and errors, making predictions and justifying. I feel the key competencies were well covered.
We loved learning about World records. The links to youtube clips were excellent and were a great tool for immersion. Students were then inspired to research and present interesting world records that they learnt about. We loved doing the activities and trying to set our own world records which encouraged collaboration and teamwork. The kit totally engaged my senior class.
