How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? This was quite a hard unit to do with very young juniors. I think next time we would not separate into so many groups and perhaps did do three or four world records. It was hard to complete all world records with all children at this age as they had to be supervised all the time to be fair on participants. We did enjoy this unit in the end, and learned about how world records began, how to make one, and using a growth mindset to complete them. I think next time instead of focusing on organization, I will be able to focus deeper on the aspect of math and growth mindset. I would do this unit again.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? The timers are difficult to use because you don't get a precise time from them, we ended up using ipads to time things. The measuring tapes would be more useful if they were exactly 1 meter long as this would be easier for our students to use. We did a re

This kit was a lot of fun for the class. We didn't end up using the definition cards, they were a bit confusing. We just had them write out what their world record was going to be and how they would measure it in their books to refer back to. It took quite a lot of time and scaffolding to get each child to arrive at a world record that they could actually attempt at school, and then several more sessions to attempt the records. It seemed that the most interesting learning that took place during this unit was around working together in groups to complete the record attempts (observing, recording, timing, making sure each person had what they needed, etc.). Overall the students seemed to really enjoy it and it brought out quite a lot of creativity. We didn't end up challenging each other's records because it took so much time and organization for everyone to complete their's once.

We got this kit for our Year 2's. They loved the concept and once we were underway they were very engaged with the content too. I did find navigating the online teacher resource/info tricky and not logical. I also hard to hunt around a lot to work out how to even attack this, especially as I had to adapt it for juniors even though it was advertised as a suitable kit for this age- it wasn't set up for them though.
