What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Heath- setting goals and working towards it. It could be adapted to any area based on rheir interest level or a focus the teacher wants to take.
Though I thought the unit was awesome, in practice it was a lot harder to get somethingfrom my yr 7 students. I wanted to use it with my class as an extension activity that the students could work on during maths but I didn't have a lot of buy in and there wasn't a lot of creative thought in what the students produced. I'm going to try again next year with some more front-loading about world records and the feeling of success when you complete a challenge.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Probably not as well as it could have but this was more of an 'user' issue as opposed to a kit issue.

This was fun and engaging for the kids and it worked in really well with the Paris Olympics that was also happening. I am not sure we used it to its full potential but the kids enjoyed creating events and challenging themselves and others.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Social sciences, emotional learning when we succeeded or failed, connection with whānau as they got behind our learning, writing about our record, reading about records in our Guiness World Records books.
If you are thinking about doing this kit, don't think anymore, do it! My class and I loved it. It is well resourced and also the teacher guide was very helpful. I knew my kids were engaged when they asked to spend their lunchtimes practising for their record. My class now knows that if you put your mind to something, you can achieve it! It also helped that I have a friend who has actually broken a world record so we could connect in with them to talk about all the training they did.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? For our children it was mostly around relationships and how they respond to each other when giving commands or instructions and how they used initiative or problem solved when things didn't go as planned.
What an exciting unit to finish our term. Alongside watching new Olympic records be created, the children enjoyed creating their own records and challenging each other to see who would be the syndicate record holder. Initially, some of the activities the children had created weren't able to be completed by their peers, so this in itself was a great learning curve as they had to adjust and reassess how they could make it achievable whilst still making it fun.
