What was the most unique record achieved and why? Quickest to build our puzzle cube in our class while blindfolded. We have had this puzzle for a while and only one or two children had mastered it. By the end of this unit, so many more people could solve it!

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Physical Education, mathematics
It was so amazing to see how engaged the class were when finding out about the records. They loved persevering to try and beat the current World Records, as well as go about setting their own ones. The highlight was the quickest to build our puzzle cube in our class while blindfolded. One boy got it down to only 15 seconds!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Once all testing began, some saw their record was not as 'enticing' as others, and wished they'd written something different or funnier. There are requests to do this again, and we might do a shortened version of not so many records at the end of the term, for a fun PE for a couple of weeks.

What was the most unique record achieved and why? Probably, the hanging from the monkey bars with a dice balanced on your head. (Sounded easy, but lots of attempts were in seconds)

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Fair test in maths and science. There was considerable debate about some record attempts as the writer of them disagreed how their record was being attempted. For eg handstand while singing, was expected to be measured in steps, but some groups timed being up, and another group measured how far someone had travelled in metres (or part-metres).
This was such engaging fun. We started on the back of the Olympics, so they wanted to do more 'regular' sports. Then we thought of some fun records we could do and voted on 4 to try out. That caught their interest and they devised some very varied records - some with equipment, some not. The trickiest part was deciding how to measure, a definite time, not 'until you can't any more'. And we could have done with more variation on the silly part of the attempt. Still, I'll know for next time. Good for measuring skills and establishing what a fair test was.

This was a great unit to incorporate into our Olympics Unit. Students had to work together and think critically about the wording of their records and validity.

What was the most unique record achieved and why? There were 2, the first was moving m&m's from one bowl to another using chopsticks held only in your non dominant hand while your dominant hand was behind your back, this was interesting because strategy came into play where finding other ways to use the chopsticks to achieve the same result made the students who don't normally use chopsticks gain the advantage over regular chopstick using students. The 2nd one was building the tallest tower using Jenga blocks while wearing oven mitts, again strategy of creating a decent base to build upon was the technique doubled with maintaining steady hands saw the best results ,

The DIY World Records is a great kit that gets the students thinking outside the square and exploring their individual talents. It got them to push themselves in a fun and supportive way while also connecting well in to many different learning area/aspects throughout the term.

We timed this kit alongside the world paralympics and it was fantastic. In my special education class we love to track world sporting events (olympics, world cups etc) and to get the students to come up with their own sporting/fitness goals alongside the paralympics was awesome!

Our students really enjoyed coming up with their own task that others had to try set a record for. The 'silly' component was fun.
