How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? The World Records Kit was a fantastic way to incorporate measurement concepts into the classroom in a hands-on and exciting way. As students invented and tested their own world records, they had the opportunity to measure time, length, weight, and distance—all essential skills in the real world.

What are three words that describe the activities in this kit? Fun, engaging, challenging
What was the most unique record achieved and why? most rolly pollies in 1 minute with one hand tied behind their back. This was the most creative due to its ncuonventional approach. Unlike traditional athletic events that focus on running, jumping, or throwing, this challenge takes a playful, unconventional twist on physical activity. The idea of doing rolly pollies—a basic gymnastics move—while limiting one hand introduces an unexpected element of fun and creativity, encouraging students to approach the task in a new way.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? This kit was able to incorporate maths, topic, p.e and writing into one activity.
The World Records Kit was an incredibly fun and engaging activity that had students excited to unleash their creativity while competing in unique challenges. They had a blast inventing their own world records, from quirky feats of strength to imaginative speed trials, and were thrilled to challenge each other in friendly competition. This hands-on experience perfectly complemented the work we had been doing around the Olympics, allowing students to apply their knowledge of athletic events and sportsmanship in a new, exciting context. The activity not only sparked teamwork and problem-solving but also encouraged them to think outside the box while having a ton of fun!

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Talked about the different types of measurement. Understanding there are different ways to measure an activity. For my lower learners it helped with basic counting and challenged by high learners to calculate different strategies to get a better result

What was the most unique record achieved and why? Quickest to build our puzzle cube in our class while blindfolded. We have had this puzzle for a while and only one or two children had mastered it. By the end of this unit, so many more people could solve it!

It was so amazing to see how engaged the class were when finding out about the records. They loved persevering to try and beat the current World Records, as well as go about setting their own ones. The highlight was the quickest to build our puzzle cube in our class while blindfolded. One boy got it down to only 15 seconds!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Once all testing began, some saw their record was not as 'enticing' as others, and wished they'd written something different or funnier. There are requests to do this again, and we might do a shortened version of not so many records at the end of the term, for a fun PE for a couple of weeks.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Fair test in maths and science. There was considerable debate about some record attempts as the writer of them disagreed how their record was being attempted. For eg handstand while singing, was expected to be measured in steps, but some groups timed being up, and another group measured how far someone had travelled in metres (or part-metres).
This was such engaging fun. We started on the back of the Olympics, so they wanted to do more 'regular' sports. Then we thought of some fun records we could do and voted on 4 to try out. That caught their interest and they devised some very varied records - some with equipment, some not. The trickiest part was deciding how to measure, a definite time, not 'until you can't any more'. And we could have done with more variation on the silly part of the attempt. Still, I'll know for next time. Good for measuring skills and establishing what a fair test was.
