What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have looked into the future and reflected on the ideas that we covered. This has meant that students are more open minded to ideas around racism.
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? It was challenging as a teacher who is not confident in teaching art. It did provoke lots of thinking and questions around our personal beliefs.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? Art that is positive and inclusive through poetry and kind words.
We watched the video by Maya Angelou “Be a rainbow in someone elses cloud” and in small groups tamariki talked about what this metaphor meant to them. They then chose 1 person to write 4 kind words or phrases to and they will hand the card to them. Sharing positivity was a great activity for my class of year 3’s and 4’s. We will explore the letter next and write our own letters as well as the symbol art we just ran out of time. Such a great resource.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? We looked at how art can be used to express thought rather than always having to use words to portray our feelings and thoughts.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This had encouraged students to speak out and stand up for their peers and others and look in to the history of racism. Some students have been encouraged to look at their own history and cultures and embrace it. I have a Russian student and a Spanish stu
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? It actually came up as a conversation which led on to the project being started. It was great to use art as it is something all students felt they could participate in and didn't feel like it was a struggle as apposed to reading or writing.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? It started a discussion of how people display their thoughts and feelings not just through words and that some art may look odd, but if you look deeper there's often a hidden meaning.
With the crazy year that's gone on, this has been a great project that the students have gotten involved in and talked about even after they've come back from being away. This is obviously something that has stuck out to the students and something they have taken personally. We haven't quite finished yet, but so far the new found poems that we have created have been amazing. I can't wait to share what we have completed. This is also going in to one of our school blogs. Thank you school kit. These units are amazing!

How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? I think art is a great medium to introduce these complex issues. We scratched the surface but I think they were definitely thinking more deeply about it.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? As Y6s they had something of an awareness of art having a purpose other than just to look pretty. We have also delved in songs and music in the same way.
This was a really powerful and engaging way to start the year. The poetry writing component was scaffolded well and allowed all students to be engaged at their level. It ticked over while kids were coming and going with absences. The art was fun - have not attempted print making in a long time. I am still looking for some space to display it effectively.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Deeper research and discussion into other artists and their purpose behind the pieces produced. Research into global issues at a younger age (it is surprising what they know).
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? Art allowed my students to have rich and purposeful discussion around the themes in the kit. They brought up issues around the globe and nationally which meant we were able to think wider than ourselves. It was fantastic to be able to represent ourselves

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? It raised questions around other pieces of art - for us specifically religious pieces with purpose and meaning. This for us as Catholics has enabled us to look at our Easter portraits with a differing light this year.
This was to date my favourite school kit. I love how this unit brought together our class through Unity. The art display has attracted wonderful comments from students, parents, and other teachers in school. the rich discussion around inclusivity and racism was rich and purposeful.

I was not able to us ethe kit as I had originally planned as I am not in a class full time this year. I thinkg the kit is amazing and can see how it would have been wonderful to use with a class. I have adapted the idea of using kotahitanga as I move from class to class. The kit is wonderful. Tahnk you so much I hope to use it with my own class next year.
