What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? With the discussion, all wanted to teach others how to do the artwork and create more poems that showcased who they are. We will use these resources more as we were time poor due to covid lockdown and trips etc that were planned

We have explored our emotions and connected these to specific colours and expressed these through colouring in feathers for our journals. The students have

“The Kotahitanga project supported my well-being focus across Term 3 & 4 when my Year 5 and 6 students were most vulnerable. As the covid-19 lockdown seemed imminent, the discovery of more asbestos in the adjoining classroom being renovated, being moved to the library and staffroom amidst windy wet winter weather, the students were struggling! So for us, to sit and talk and be listened to, was essential to maintaining strong relationships. Therefore, the relevance of Unity Through Creativity, became more than just an activity. We were able to re-connect with Kotahitanga in a relevant and personal way.”

“Morena koutou, We received the Kotaitanga kit but because of school routines we were not able to begin it until the middle of the term. However we were able to get four activities completed. The discussions that were raised were amazing for my tamriki. Even though they are a year 2's and 3's the topics that came from the discussion helped them have a better understanding of the concept. Unfortunately due to covid-19 we had a big gap in learning using the kit. We were just getting back into it when the current lock down happened. Thankfully 17 of my tamarisk will remain in this class next year so we will revisit it then.”
