How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? It showed them that through art you can communicate your thoughts, ideas and point of view effectively and with emotion. Making your audience think critically about the message with out it being spoon fed to them.
Fabulous resource and really enjoyed how it challenged thinking around racism and the impact it has on those who face it on a daily basis and how our history is not as perfect as many students who do not face this issue thought.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? What unintended unkindness could we be guilty of? Does it matter to those we are unkind to whether it is intended or not? If someone does something unkind to me, but it seems clear they were not trying to be nasty, how should I respond?

Was excited to receive the kit. There were a number of items in it I did not know how to use. But absolutely loved the rolls of sticky 'display' tape with "Be Kind" continuously repeated. Used them on windows and doors inside and out. Much appreciated. PS: For the rest of this review I am entering mostly 'neutral' answers, as I did not even recognise this was associated with art - so did not use it like that.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This highlighted an area in our kura which had often been overlooked as "children being children". The kōrero that came directly from the tamariki evoked memories of my own childhood. This allowed a space for empathy to be shown from kaiako to tauira and
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? We have used the Taiao as a metaphor to taking care of each other. Using Te Whare Tapa Wha as our starter. We then looked at what inclusive means as we have had some issues in our kura around racism (NOT COOL!) Tamariki talked about their experiences of

Enjoyed the art and the cultural link with identity - it was just a bit hard to decipher how to assemble - Myself and another teacher had to unpack it:)

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Hopefully I'll be able to have another go with the kids before the end of the year - and if not then I would like to have another go when the kids return next year.
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? Art is much more than just making things. It stretching our own beliefs as we have to step out of our own views and try to look at the world through the artists eyes. It takes us beyond ourselves.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? Besides building the children's knowledge of the skills needed to complete the artwork, this unit helped us explore why people become artists and what it means to create.
Due to personal difficulties I was unable to begin this unit in Term 2, so began Week 2, Term 3. However due to Covid-19 lockdown I was unable to complete this unit with my class as we have been focussing with communicating with our students and trying to build up their online learning.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will use this kit again with the younger students who are working on a mahi tahi topic over the next term . The concepts and discussions will be adapted to meet their needs.
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? The visuals used in the kit helped the students to express their own thoughts in a safe way and examine how we may have preconceptions and assumptions. How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? The kit allowed students to engage with a variety of art mediums. Thus expanding their knowledge of what art can be (e.g., it can share messages, it takes different forms, it can expose problems/issues).
Brilliant resource. This was a very creative way of addressing racism through the arts. My students were able to learn more about the artists in the kit who they did not know of before.
